Fourth Downtown for The Villages® Community Committed to Sumter County    

A fourth downtown is part of a 30-year road construction agreement recently approved by the Sumter County Board of Commissioners.

The agreement also mentions the development of the 525E Industrial Center, a 432-acre industrial park south of Coleman. “The Villages of Southern Oaks and the new industrial park will together provide significant employment and economic development,” the agreement states.

Sumter County Approves High Residential Density 

More apartments, condominiums and other multifamily housing may be on the way to Sumter County after the Board of County Commissioners approved an amendment allowing up to 24 housing units per acre.  The high-density residential land-use designation is intended to spark investment in more multifamily housing in order to meet the strong housing demand as workers come to the rapidly developing county.

More than 30 states presently have industrial hemp projects; however Florida has a comparative advantage in growing season and markets. Industrial hemp has been identified as a potentially valuable and impactful alternative crop for Florida, which could be used for fiber, building materials, forages and pain relief (CBD oil).
