July General Membership Meeting:
In Brief

Thank you to the members who attended our July General Membership Meeting. We were thrilled to welcome Jane Austin, SAG-AFTRA Secretary-Treasurer and President of the Los Angeles chapter, as our guest speaker, who spoke about her union's recent organizing campaigns.

Although we did not reach a quorum, a lively conversation was had by all who were present on topics including the Strategic Plan, our Pension Fund, contract negotiations, and our Keeping the Score in CA campaign win.

A Resolution to amend the Bylaws and adopt a mission statement was approved by the Executive Board. The new Bylaws will soon be available in the members section of our website or by request from the Secretary's Office.

Keep an eye out for the upcoming August issue of Overture Online for a full recap of the meeting.

Congratulations to Life Member Ken Gruberman on receiving your 50-year pin!

Take Action to Protect Our Pension Fund

Concerned about the future of our Pension Fund? You’re not alone. The question is — what can you as an individual do?

There is a U.S. Congress Joint Select Committee looking for a solution for pension funds like ours. We are not alone, and neither are you.

The Joint Select Committee held its fifth hearing on Wednesday, July 25, on “How the Multiemployer Pension System Affects Stakeholders.” Video of the hearing is available on the Joint Select Committee website.

Our Pension Fund has created a page that gives you the tools to be heard. Click here to take action now!

Non-Union Concert Goes AFM

Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra was placed on the American Federation of Musicians International Unfair List and AFM Local 47 Do Not Work For List earlier this month for failure to pay musicians according to industry standards.

A week later, as a direct result of these actions, Kaleidoscope was canceled for a high-profile engagement they were scheduled to do in Anaheim for the company Music Paradigm for an engagement historically conducted under union contract. Once the employer was made aware that Kaleidoscope would not guarantee fair wages and benefits to the musicians, they instead hired a Local 47 contractor to secure an all-AFM orchestra.

We are stronger together! If you are called for a non-union engagement, please submit a report to Local 47’s Anonymous Tip Line: 424-341-DARK (3275), bit.ly/darkdate
