We're exploring Jamaican folk dance tonight with Kameika Brown in beginner's class and Ivory Coast dance with Atito Gohi on Thursday, August 2nd in the intermediate class. If you're not sure what to expect, click on the video below to see what it's like on the Ayodele floor!

Jamaican Folk Dance with Kameika Brown


A trained dancer out of the Edna Manley College of Dance, Kameika hails from Trelawney, Jamaica.  In 2012, she founded the Artistry in Motion dance group which has won numerous competitions. She was a featured instructor at the 3rd Annual Jamaica African Dance & Culture Festival and is a member of the Asoso International Ensemble.

Dancing representing many different styles and cultures will take place in every corner of Millennium Park. Highlights include a House DJ Dance Party and “The Most Versatile Dancer” contest at Cloud Gate, Bollywood dance lessons and a folk Circle Dance on the Great Lawn, and a Dance Village in Wrigley Square highlighting dance companies and advocacy groups from across Chicago.

In the evening from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, a Chicago Dance Showcase at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion will feature performances by local dance companies Ayodele Drum & DanceVisceral Dance ChicagoDeeply Rooted Dance TheaterThe Puzzle League and Giordano Dance Chicago.

Ayodele Youth Program: Sesa Wo Suban 


Ayodele's Path to the Crown of
Womanhood, is designed to help young dancers learn to use creative expression to explore their identities, hopes, and dreams while developing their self-image.

Students participating in this invigorating program will learn the fundamentals of African music and dance as well as build the personal development skills necessary to maintain themselves as individuals in society.
