A Message From MJJ Principal Adam Danser

Greetings MJJ Family!

The bell is about to ring welcoming our students back for another fantastic year at Maynard H. Jackson High School.  Our building is abuzz with activity as our teachers and staff prepare for our amazing scholars.  I am so excited!!

Before we enter school year 2018-2019, as a Maynard Jackson family we should relish in the accomplishments of the previous school year, which include graduating 228 students (one of the highest numbers in school history); six of our scholars earning an Associate’s Degree while still in high school; increasing the percentage of students scoring 3 or higher on AP exams from 12% to 19%; more than doubling the number of CTAE pathway completers; our graduating class, c/o 2018, earning the highest amount of scholarship dollars in school history; bringing back home the district’s Academic Decathlon championship; sending many students to district and state academic competitions (with several receiving top awards); continuing to grow our IB program with 55 c/o 2019 seniors in either DP or CP; decreasing our discipline rates to one of the lowest in the district among high schools; growing our “Sunshine Closet” to support more of our students in need; and experiencing great success in the athletic, art, and JROTC departments….just to name a few things.  Additionally, we ran our first-ever in-house MJHS Summer School program and instituted a successful and well attended 9th Grade Summer Bridge Program this past week.  While we cherish these accomplishments, we also have much to reflect upon in order to soar to new heights as a Jaguar family, particularly with our overall performance on the Georgia End Of Course Milestones exams. We can, will, and must get better!

Overall, guided by our strategic plan, our mission continues as we strive to pursue excellence, every day in every way. This includes improving the academic performance of ALL students, increasing student engagement, and nurturing a positive, safe, and fun environment.  Plus, this year, we have TWO huge tasks before us— IB MYP Authorization and our AdvancEd Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) 5-year Engagement Review.

We remain committed to all stakeholders, as I firmly believe everyone matters!  I value your input. To this end, you will notice the addition of a suggestion/comment box in the main office. Should we fall short, please reach out to me so that we can works towards a positive resolution. I am committed to continuous improvement and our parents are an essential piece in our journey.

I look forward to seeing you at Open House on Monday, July 30 from 2:00 to 4:00, as well as throughout the year at school events, meetings, and in the community.  I cannot wait to welcome our sensational Jaguar scholars back-to-school on Day One, Wednesday, August 1, 2018

Our mission continues: To pursue EXCELLENCE, every day in every way.
Motivate, Educate, Accelerate
MJJ ALL DAY!

All my best,

Adam

MJJ ALL DAY!

A Message From PTSA President Mo Ivory

Hello MJHS Family!

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. As the new PTSA President for this 2018-19 school year, I am so excited to serve you. We have already gotten off to a fantastic start at 9th Grade Bridge Orientation which took place on July 24th and 25th. We got to meet so many new parents and students and we introduced our newest Spirit Wear designer t-shirts! They were a hit and we sold so many with all the proceeds going right back into the PTSA to fund student academic and cultural programming, enhance parent involvement and communications, school safety, provide classrooms supplies and recognition to our teachers.

Speaking of our teachers, on July 26th, the PTSA hosted its annual “Back to School Teacher Breakfast.” We were so happy to see our awesome and enthusiastic teachers along with Principal Danser, ready to go and completely fired up for a great school year. We are happy to report that many of our teachers joined the PTSA at the breakfast and many more plan to in the coming weeks.

Want to join the PTSA? Need some T-SHIRTS (uniform compliant) for your scholar? Then we will see you at OPEN HOUSE on July 30th from 2-4pm!

Look for all the cool signs for PTSA and Spirit Wear! We can’t wait to see you Monday. Have a great weekend. #MJJAllDay

Your PTSA President,

Mo Ivory
