 Welcome to the new format of my “born again” newsletter! I have been struggling through a digital marketing funk but am seeing the light of day, thanks to my new digital marketing guru, Catherine!

I am resuming my Patterns of the Month program (or perhaps I should say “my patterns of every two months which has been dormant for four months!” program) with the introduction of of three additional patterns of the month beginning August 1. Read more below!

In August, enjoy discounted prices on the Lorraine Torrence Designs pattern, Breezy Block, the Grainline Gear pattern, Mandalay Medley, and the Lorraine Torrence Design Quilt Series pattern, Vanity Square.
Both Garment patterns are flattering, shaped patterns that allow you to combine interesting fabrics, and the quilt patterns is easy-to-sew and can make use of scraps or a coordinated collection of ethnic or other hand selected fabrics. Have fun with these!

 I'll be teaching a one-day class at Blue Bar Quilts in Middleton on August 11 that will highlight the fundamentals of Color and Design for quilters. Join in for some enlightening clarity on the secrets of these key ingredients to a successful quilt as we do some cut and paste exercises in design elements and principles.

 A new year of Creative Clothing begins at Gayfeather Fabrics in Madison on September 15, 2018 with all new assignments!
The class is divided into three 3-month clusters which may be purchased separately. I will be sending out the first assignment on August 15, so students will have a full month to work on the assignment before bringing it to the first class. E-mail me for the class syllabus or more information at lorraine@lorrainetorrence.com.
This class assumes general knowledge of garment construction. Sewing is done at home between classes. Classes include sharing of garments made from the previous month's assignment, demos and inspirational slideshows on the next assignment. Join us at any cluster during the year!

Beginning Saturday, September 22

 Mill House Quilts in Waunakee, WI will host the 2018-19 Design Essentials 7-month class beginning on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm.
We will focus in the first year on exercises in Design Principles and Elements. This as an in-depth class in which we will learn to use the most fundamental design principles and elements that will improve your quilts and other artwork by leaps and bounds! Critique of the exercises in each class will deepen our design intuition and help us learn to analyze and talk about what we see. This is a non-threatening class to which students keep coming back year after year!

Collage Curves Mini Quilts Class

 Mill House Quilts will host this one-day class on Friday, October 5th to make one of Lorraine's four 15" square Collage Curves Mini Quilt patterns. Designs include curvy shapes with raw edges covered with self-made bias tape, a new approach to foundation piecing and design considerations.
One free Mini Quilt pattern of your choice included in class. More available at Mill House Quilts. Kits available for $30 or bring your own fabric. Class runs from 9:30-3:30. Supply list is available upon registering.

 The huge and wonderful Quilt Expo comes to Madison again on September 6, 7 and 8, 2018 at the Alliant Energy Center. There will be a high quality Quilt Exhibit and competition, a collection of additional exhibits, one-of-a kind vendors, classes, lectures and more to delight and inspire you!
My part in all of this will be a one-hour lecture called "Sew Clothing That Displays Your Creativity" offered at 1 pm on Thursday and Saturday.

Creative Clothing Class Fashion Show

 At 1 pm Friday, I will present a Fashion Show with the students from my Creative Clothing class at Gayfeather Fabrics in Madison. In this popular one hour show, the students will model the garments they made from my monthly assignments throughout the last year from September, 2017 through May, 2018.
This is a collection of real women with a variety of shapes and sizes, styles and skill levels, but all with an abundance of creativity and enthusiasm for fashion! Buy tickets online now (at a discount until September 3!)
