Everyone has a role to play in preventing violence against women – just ask the taxi drivers in Port Moresby!
Population Services International’s Family Support Centre Assistance Project works with informal responders to violence, such as taxi drivers and security guards, to find new ways to referwomen and girls experiencing violence to the Family Support Centre for assistance. Read more about the project.

Tuvalu launches disability study
Demonstrating its commitment to ‘leave no one behind’, the Government of Tuvalu has launched the country’s first comprehensive national study on persons with a disability. The study was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Gender Affairs Department of the Office of the Prime Minister and the Fusi Alofa Association. Read more about the study.
Resourcing recovery in Tonga
A project delivered by Tonga’s Women and Children’s Crisis Centre is providing support to survivors of trauma and violence to aid their recovery.
The Psychosocial Support and Resilience project is a long-term recovery initiative that provides safe, rapid and confidential access to services such as psychosocial support for survivors of violence, with a focus on women and children.

Pacific Girls – the next ‘Wonder Women’
The Australian Government is pleased to support the Pacific Girl initiative as part of its Pacific Women program. Through Pacific Girl, Australia is working with a range of partners to help create a better future for adolescent girls and young women. Find out more about Pacific Girl on the Pacific Women website.

Understanding sorcery accusations in PNG
A research study into sorcery accusation-related violence in Papua New Guinea has provided important insights into the issue. The study found that over the past 20 years, an average of 72 people per year are victims of sorcery accusation-related violence and an average of 30 people per year have been killed.

Family & Sexual Violence Action Committee Newsletter
In this edition of Hadibaiatok, read about a new project that the FSVAC is embarking on with funding by the Papua New Guinea – Australia Partnership, under Pacific Women. The project is implemented in seven earthquake-affected local level governments in the Hela and Southern Highlands Provinces. It seeks to support women and children and other vulnerable people who have been significantly impacted by the earthquake disaster that took place in early 2018.

Breaking Down Barriers: Coming of Age, Becoming the Change

Emerging research from the Pacific suggests that managing menstruation hygienically and with dignity can be challenging, with multiple barriers that can leave girls disempowered. This report presents findings from research in Kiribati and includes a set of school-based, programmatic recommendations to improve girls’ experiences of menstruation in the school setting.
