Dear members and associates!

We would like to draw your attention to the high-level writing course organised by several Norwegian national research schools. This course is aimed at senior PhD students and postdocs who are working on high-impact data for top-tier journals. The course is taught by editors from selected relevant journals from the Nature Publishing Group, and aims to provide coaching and contact between the authors and the editors to facilitate tailoring results and pitch to the target audience.

Through talks, seminars, practical exercises and workshops, the course will cover the following topics: what makes a Nature paper?; making a decision; selecting a journal; figure presentation; brevity, titles and abstracts; from introduction to conclusion; submitting your paper; the editorial process; mechanisms of peer review; choosing referees; journal decisions; referee reports; measuring impact.

Teachers: Markus Elsner (Senior Editor, Nature Biotechnology) and Rebecca Furlong (Senior Editor and Team Manager, Nature Communications).

Learning outcomes: After the course you know how to get the most out of the writing process. You understand the editorial processes and how to work with them. You know what it takes to get published in top-ranked journals.

Schedule: The schedule can be downloaded here.

When and Where: This two-day intensive course will be taught at Isegran Fort in Fredrikstad, 6-7 September. Lodging will be on-site in shared rooms, and food will be provided locally. Lodging includes the night before and during the course, and attendants are expected to arrive the day before the course, and leave on the second day when the course is over.
