Moshe Rabbeinu tells the Yidden about the presents that they need to give to the kohanim.
Shevet Levi doesn’t get a part of Eretz Yisroel like the rest of the Yidden.
Instead, they get to keep the presents that the Yidden bring to Hashem — parts of the Korbanos, the Terumah, and the first part of the wool when we cut the hair of our sheep.
Why? Because the Kohanim and Leviim work for Hashem in the Beis Hamikdash.

Today’s kapitelach are Yud-Ches to Chof-Beis. For Chodesh Elul we also say kapitelach Zayin, Ches, and Tes.
In today’s Tehillim (in Kapitel Yud-Tes) we have a posuk that says “Hashomayim Mesaprim Kevod Keil.” (“The sky tells about Hashem’s kavod.”)
Dovid Hamelech tells us that when we look at things in the world, we will want to praise Hashem!
This is one of the things we learned in Tanya — that when we look around at the world, it can help us have Yiras Shomayim if we remember that Hashem is the chayus which is creating it all!

Hashem gives chayus to the WHOLE WORLD because of the mitzvos Yidden do! Since mitzvos are Gashmius, they have to be a certain size, a certain amount, or a certain time — otherwise they won’t be able to bring the chayus. Tzedakah also has a certain amount: The Gemara says that even if you give a lot of tzedakah, you shouldn’t give more than a fifth ($1 out of every $5 you have).
If a person missed a chance to do a mitzvah, or chas veshalom did an aveira, he missed a chance to bring Hashem’s chayus into the world! He lost a chance to have that chayus for himself, and for the world — to bring Moshiach closer.
But wait! Nito Kein Farfallen — it is never too late to fix something! Hashem gave us the koach to do Teshuvah.
Since Teshuvah makes us think about part of our neshama that DOESN’T have an amount, it also brings a chayus from Hashem that doesn’t have an amount! That way, it can even fix up chayus that was missing from before!
In fact, the chayus we bring from Teshuvah is even stronger than the chayus a Tzaddik brings — someone who used ALL of his chances, ALL the time to bring Hashem’s chayus into the world!
Tomorrow, IY”H, we will see that we need a special kind of Tzedakah to make us feel this strong chayus of Teshuvah in the world.

In todya’s Hayom Yom, we learn something about Hashgacha Protis.
We all believe in Hashgacha Protis. Hashem knows EVERYTHING and makes everything in the world happen EXACTLY the way it does!
The same is true also with the shlichus our neshama has to do in the place that it is!
The place where we do our shlichus has been waiting there since Hashem made the world, for US to do our Shlichus there! And the neshama has been waiting since Hashem made it, for the time it will be able to come to this place to do that special Shlichus that Hashem wants it to do.

Today’s mitzvah (Mitzvas Asei #179) is for a Beis Din. When witnesses come and tell the judges about something they saw or heard, they are not allowed to believe them right away and make a decision. They need to ask many questions to make sure they understand what the witnesses are saying before they pasken the din. If they would just pasken right away, they might end up punishing someone who wasn’t guilty!

In today’s Rambam, we learn about the questions we ask witnesses.
In Perek Beis, we learn what happens if the eidim contradict each other in any of the questions. If one person says “he was wearing black clothes!” and the other person says “he was wearing white clothes!”, we don’t listen to what those witnesses say.
In Perek Gimmel, the Rambam tells us that the Chachomim were not as strict with court cases about money. That’s because if we ask too many questions, there is a very good chance that the witnesses will get confused, and very few cases will be won by people who lend money! If people see how hard it is to get their money back in Beis Din, they will stop lending money. That’s why the Beis Din was not as strict, so more people will help each other by lending money.
Perek Daled teaches us more halachos about not being strict with the witnesses in a money case. For example, if the witnesses saw what happened from different places (like different sides of the street) and didn’t see each other, we still count them as good witnesses. Why? So the special mitzvah of Gemilus Chasadim (which includes lending money to others) will be easier to keep, and Yidden will have the money they need.

This week is the only parsha in the whole Torah where there is NO MAAMAR in Likutei Torah! Still, we can learn a very important lesson from this parsha about how to serve Hashem:
At the very beginning of Parshas Shoftim we learned that every city needs judges to make sure everyone in the city is acting how they should. Where do the judges sit? At the GATES of the city.
The Guf of every Yid is like a city. It has gates, too!
What are the gates? The parts of us that can open and close to let something from outside come in! They are our eyes, nose, ears, and mouth. These “gates” open up so we can eat and drink and listen to things, and to let things come out — like saying things!
We need to make sure that our gates have “judges” to decide when to be open and when to be closed. Our eyes should only open up to let in kosher things — by only looking at pictures of kosher animals and tznius’dike things, our noses should smell kosher food, our ears should listen to Torah and NOT to Lashon Hara, and our mouth should say only nice things and words of Ahavas Yisroel!

“Boruch She’amar Vehaya Ha’olam…” We are supposed to say it with a nice tune. It is a beautiful bracha that speaks about how Hashem is blessed and praised. We sing it as an introduction to the words of Dovid Hamelech and other words of praise that we will say in Pesukei Dezimra.
The Anshei Kneses Hagedolah, who put together the davening, did not actually write Boruch She’amar. It fell in a letter from Shomayim with these words written inside!
Boruch She’amar has 87 words exactly. This hints to the posuk in Shir Hashirim which describes Hashem as “Rosho Kesem Paz,” “His head is like the finest gold.” The word “Paz” (gold) is the gematria of 87. We make the head (rosh) of Pesukei Dezimra begin with Paz, these 87 words of Boruch She’amar.
We stand when we say Boruch She’amar. (One of the reasons is that since malochim are called “Omdim,” (standing), we stand to show that this song came from Shomayim.)
For reasons of Kabbalah, we hold the two front tzitzis when saying Boruch She’amar. At the end of the bracha, we pass them over our eyes and kiss them.

To have a special Shabbos, we need to prepare before! We need to go shopping, cook, clean, set up, learn, and more!
In Shulchan Aruch it says that we should make sure that all of these things we do are with the kavana that they are L’Kavod Shabbos.
Everything we buy, we should SAY that it is L’Kavod Shabbos! And everything we do, we should THINK that it is L’Kavod Shabbos!
One of the differences between buying and doing is that when you buy, there is at least one other person there, that you are buying from. When you SAY that it is L’Kavod Shabbos, not only do you know about it, but the other person will also think about Shabbos!

The Navi Micha lived at the same time as the Neviim Hoshea, Amos, and Yeshaya. He warned the leaders of the Yidden that the way they were treating the poor was not making Hashem happy!
But Micha also said many nevuos about the Geulah, including some of the most famous ones! Here is one nevuah about Kibutz Galuyos:
אָסֹף אֶאֱסֹף יַעֲקֹב כֻּלָּךְ קַבֵּץ אֲקַבֵּץ שְׁאֵרִית יִשְׂרָאֵל יַחַד אֲשִׂימֶנּוּ כְּצֹאן בָּצְרָה כְּעֵדֶר בְּתוֹךְ הַדָּבְרוֹ תְּהִימֶנָה מֵאָדָם
Asof E’esof Yaakov Kulach — Hashem says to the Yidden, “I will surely gather together all of you!
Kabeitz Akabeitz She’eiris Yisrael — “I will surely gather the remaining Yidden.
Yachad Asimenu Ketzon Batzra — “I will make them like sheep surrounded by a fence.
K’eder Besoch Hadavro Tehimena Mei’adam — “The place I will bring them to (Eretz Yisrael) will be as noisy as a stall of sheep!”
Hashem tells Yidden through the Navi that even though we will have gone through a hard Golus, in the end Hashem will bring us all back to Eretz Yisrael, and we will be protected and happy!
