Our School Value for Term Three
Integrity/Pono

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Yesterdays planned action and march down Queen Street was a very clear indication of the issues facing education today. Teacher shortages, lack of special needs support, unrealistic workloads and salaries are just some of the issues. As a school, we
realise the inconvenience yesterday had on our families and community and thank everyone who has supported our cause. If no action is taken the long term effects on our Education system could be very dire.

On a more positive note, our senior cross countries took place last week. A huge congratulations to all of our athletes who competed on what must be one of the toughest and most scenic tracks in Auckland. Our students displayed great sportsmanship and determination in completing the course. We wish all of the placegetters the very best with the Kaipara Cross country on Friday.

Our Year 7 Netball team also made a bit of history by winning the hotly contested NW Netball Competition. We wish them all the very best as they move onto compete at the Auckland Champs later on this week. Well done girls.

Thank you to all of our wonderful grandparents who spent the morning with their grandchildren last Friday.  The popularity of this day has grown over the years with over 400 grandparents attending the day. The family support is much appreciated and a big thanks to all the parents who supplied refreshments.

We say farewell to
Mrs Gunston from Room 4 on Friday who will be taking up a new teaching position on the North Shore. Mrs Gunston has been a team leader at our school and a valuable member of our staff. We thank her for all her work over the years and wish her all the very best in her new teaching role.

Kind regards,

Gary Pasfield

School Life
Science in a Van Roadshow
The fantastic Science in a Van Roadshow came to school this week for our Years 1-4.  This experience is a fun and interactive way for our children to engage with science.  The children were captivated with the fun show and had a lot of laughs while they were learning.
Great and Grands
Greats and Grands Day was a great success and enjoyed by all.  Thank you to the PTA for organising this wonderful day for our whanau and thank you to all our Greats and Grands for coming.

Our topcourt playground was rejuvenated with new bark this week, the children found the bark blower very interesting!
Music Trivia Night
The PTA fundraiser Music Trivia Night was a smash hit with lots of fun and over $4000 raised for playground upgrades.  Thanks to Mike Steffens for being our quiz master.  Congratulations to the Peace & Love team on their win.
Chicken Talk
Liz Knight came in to school to give advice to the children who are raising chicks for ag day.  The little chicks who came along certainly were well loved, thank you very much Liz!  The ag day chicks will be delivered this Friday 17 August  and can be collected from 2:30pm.
Sunday's car wash to raise money for the AIMS Games team was a great success.  Many thanks to Matt Roby and Kyle Webber.
AIMS Games
The AIMS Games Team would like to thank all the wonderful sponsors who have made a financial contribution towards their fundraising. These generous supporters are listed in full before our 'Community Notices' section. Congratulations to Castle Panelbeaters who won the draw to sponsor the AIMS games team uniform.  Special thanks also go out to Dempsey Wood, Hallertau and David Lloyd Mortgages for their generous contributions.

Skool Loop App
Download the 'Skool Loop' app from the app store and choose our school for easy access to school information on your phone. We will be using the app for notifications for various things that are going on in school.  The app also contains links to absentee reporting, the school calendar, website and most recent newsletter.

Dental Clinic
The mobile dental clinic will be on the school grounds from 30 August.  If you have any questions or wish to
enrol your preschooler please call 838 1740.

Parking
Please park legally and considerately in the streets around the school, driveways are being parked over and it is very inconvenient for our neighbours.

Thank you
A big thank you goes out to New World Kumeu for donating the bread for our sausage sizzle
last term, the Year Book Committee is very grateful!

Found Property
A Dickies puffa vest and Kathmandu jacket from Year 7/8 classes, a black jacket with fur hood and some Roxy white slides.  Please claim from the office.
Apple Stickers
Once again we are collecting Yummy Apple stickers to earn free sports gear for our school. By collecting Yummy cut-out labels from bags (each cut-out label is worth 10 stickers) and individual Yummy apple stickers our school will earn a share of the $200,000 free DG
Sport sports gear prize pool. Over the past two years, Waimauku School has earned well over $1000 worth of prizes so every sticker counts.

Yummy apples are available from New World, Pak'n Save and participating Four Square stores. The more we collect, the more sports gear we earn so encourage friends and family members to also start collecting Yummy cut-out labels and stickers now!

Pie Day
On 29 August the Year Book Committee is running a Pie Day fundraiser.  Jesters Pies and sausage rolls are available for order on Kindo only.

Ag Day
Volunteers are needed for Ag Day.  We need classroom helpers on
the Friday morning from 10:30 to help teachers arrange the student's work on the tables ( sorry you can't help in your own child's classroom), we also need assistance with scribing and handing out ribbons on the Saturday and someone to take some photos on both days.  Please email Angela in the office if you can help angela.searle@waimauku.school.nz
