Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County announces Community Impact Grant Initiative!

Have you heard? The Community Impact Grant Cycle is now open! This competitive grant initiative awards grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.  Letters of Intent due 9/12.

Each and every day, the Community Foundation strives to improve the lives of people who live, work and play in Monroe County.  Through strategic grantmaking, the Foundation fuels innovative ideas and lasting impact by granting funds to nonprofits to meet our community’s most pressing needs and seize its most compelling opportunities. The Foundation strives to create impact that extends from early childhood development to aging, from basic needs to economic development, from the arts to the environment, and beyond.

The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County is currently accepting Letters of Intent for projects and programs that are forward thinking, community changing in their implementation, practical in their application and unique to the community. This year, the Community Foundation has not stipulated a focus area for granting.  However, the Foundation prioritizes funding opportunities that address current community needs and opportunities through innovative solutions, collaboration, and sustainability.

"Most Americans agree that family comes first, but the U.S. is the only industrialized country without paid family leave.  In one of the richest countries in the world, having a baby, a medical emergency or an aging parent can erase a person’s financial future.
Following the 90 minute screening of Zero Weeks, representatives from the Indiana Institute for Working Families will discuss where Indiana stands with respect to families’ access to paid leave. Participants will then have the opportunity to share their perspectives and personal stories with state and local lawmakers in attendance."

Big Hunger, Real Change: A Conversation with Andy Fisher
Wednesday, September 5th, 2018
5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Monroe County Public Library
This September, Bloomington will host Andy Fisher, author of Big Hunger and co-founder of the former national Community Food Security Coalition. In Big Hunger, Fisher outlines how the emergency food system, once a stop-gap for individuals and families in need, has become a fixture in communities across the US. Monroe County is no exception to this trend - pantries, soup kitchens, and food banks all play a vital role for many households.
Join us for an evening of conversation with Fisher, and a panel with community experts from the emergency food, healthcare, and housing sectors! The event will cover the content of Big Hunger, how it is reflected in Bloomington, how hunger persists within a larger context of structural inequality, and where we have opportunities to grow.
This event is co-hosted by: Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, Bloomington Township Trustee, Bloomington Food Policy Council
