Jaffé & Neale at
Wilderness Festival 2018

Jaffé & Neale Bookshop & Cafe appeared in the books tent at our local Wilderness Festival again this year. We hosted author signings and took along a great selection of our favourite titles. And of course Ceci and her delicious homemade cakes joined us too!

Jaffé and Neale Bookclub:
September 2018

We have a thriving book club here at Jaffé & Neale which is free to join and there is no obligation to attend every month. There is no bookclub in August but do join us on Wednesday the 12th September at 6.30pm, when we will be discussing the global phenomenon that is Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari:

Planet Earth is 4.5 billion years old. In just a fraction of that time, one species among countless others has conquered it. Us.
We are the most advanced and most destructive animals ever to have lived. What makes us brilliant? What makes us deadly? What makes us Sapiens? In this bold and provocative book, Yuval Noah Harari explores who we are, how we got here and where we're going. Sapiens is a thrilling account of humankind's extraordinary history - from the Stone Age to the Silicon Age - and our journey from insignificant apes to rulers of the world 'It tackles the biggest questions of history and of the modern world, and it is written in unforgettably vivid language.

Our Book of the Month: Poverty Safari by Darren McGarvey

A Sunday Times bestseller
Winner of the Orwell Prize 2018

'There are very few books that I would say EVERYBODY should read, and this is undoubtedly one of them' - Dave from the Jaffé & Neale team

He knows why people from deprived communities all around Britain feel angry and unheard. And he wants to explain. So he invites you to come on a safari of sorts. But not the kind where the wildlife is surveyed from a safe distance...

This book takes you inside the experience of poverty to show how the pressures really feel and how hard their legacy is to overcome. Arguing that both the political left and right misunderstand poverty as it is actually lived, McGarvey sets out what everybody - including himself - could do to change things. Razor-sharp, fearless and brutally honest, Poverty Safari is an unforgettable insight into modern Britain.
