Student Veterans of America Announces Spring 2018 Scholarship Winners

Recipients demonstrate the best in academic excellence and leadership potential of student veterans

Washington, D.C. – Student Veterans of America (SVA), in partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal and Raytheon, announced four student veteran recipients of scholarships today. The winners went through an extremely competitive application process to become SVA-recognized scholars from an SVA chapter.
 
SVA has supported over 200 chapter members providing more than $1.5 million in scholarships within the past seven years, and both of those numbers continue to grow with today’s announcement.
 
“At SVA, we make it our mission to not only promote the unparalleled leadership and talents of student veterans, but foster those areas using every resource available as well,” said Jared Lyon, SVA's President and CEO. “It’s incredible to see leading companies come together to give these inspiring chapter members the tools they need to leverage the transformative power of higher education.” 


 Comcast NBCUniversal Scholarship

SVA partnered with Comcast NBCUniversal to provide two $12,000 scholarships to student veterans pursuing careers in in the media and entertainment industry through the NBCUniversal-SVA Scholarship program. NBCUniversal is committed to increasing diversity both on the air and behind the scenes – doing so provides a secure, powerful and competitive advantage in their industry.
 
“It’s an honor and a pleasure to support these outstanding student veterans,” said Craig Robinson, Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at NBCUniversal. “And to help provide a bridge to bring their leadership and academic excellence to the media and entertainment industry.”
 
The winners of the NBC Universal-SVA Scholarship are:

  • Hillary Browning -  Yale University
  • Elena Stofle -  St. Mary’s College of California

 
Raytheon Patriot Scholarship
 
SVA partnered with Raytheon to provide two student veterans with $10,000 scholarships named after Raytheon's Patriot Air and Missile Defense System. The scholarship is offered exclusively to two U.S. Army veterans pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited university. The following students demonstrated a commitment to and passion for their chosen field of study, as well as notable leadership and engagement within their community
 
“Through the Raytheon Patriot Scholarship, we offer student veterans the support they need to complete their education and pursue rewarding careers, “ said Tom Laliberty, vice president of Integrated Air and Missile Defense for Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems. “Both Patriot Scholars are well deserving recipients and it’s a privilege to recognize their academic achievements.”
 
The winners of the Patriot Scholarship are:
  • Matthew Dillon - Duke University
  • Alexandra Davis - Argosy University
