Wednesday, 8 August 2018 (New York, USA)--The omission of a sugar tax from the Political Declaration to be adopted at the third United Nations High-Level Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases (UN HLM on NCDs) being held in New York on September 27 is just one of a number of weaknesses in the final document that fails to commit governments to act and avoid a global health epidemic that could lead to millions of preventable illnesses and deaths.

Breastfeeding rates in Barbados are very low. Environments that support, protect and enable breastfeeding have been proven to increase breastfeeding rates. Breastfeeding is not only beneficial to maternal and child health it also has a significant economic impact.

California, of All Places, Has Banned Soda Taxes. How a New Industry Strategy Is Succeeding.

For years, the soda industry had an ironclad strategy when a city wanted to enact a soda tax: Spend a lot of money, rally local businesses, and shoot it down. That strategy worked again and again, until it didn’t. In 2014, Berkeley, Calif., passed the nation’s first tax on sugary drinks, which have been linked to heart disease, obesity and tooth decay.
