Annual Benefit Event a Hit!

Sagamore's Annual Benefit for Historic Preservation was held at camp on August 4th, 2018. The event was sold out at 150 attendees who came from throughout the region to support Sagamore.  This year we celebrated the life achievements of Bill Smith, one of our original folk artisans who has taught, demonstrated and performed at Sagamore for over 40 years. Many remember Bill for his tales of growing up in the North Country as the youngest of 10 children of a farming family, but he is multi-talented and has worked at Sagamore as a carver, basket maker and builder of rustic furniture.

The Benefit raised almost $100,000 for our daily operations and restoration projects. At this year's benefit we focused on the rebuilding of the deck of the Main Lodge. The deck has suffered from many years of exposure to our harsh climate and near constant use in the season. The project received wide support from the group with gifts ranging from $100 to $5000 and a total of over $20,000 to restore this important part of camp.

Next year the Annual Benefit will be on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019. We hope to see you there!
The event included dinner by Townsend Catering under the tent and lively bidding on many items, including this beautiful quilt made by Sagamore volunteers to benefit camp.
Bill and Sal Smith were honored by the quilt made by Elaine Rubeneau Reich that had images of Bill through the years given in the name of the many volunteers and others of the Sagamore community who have enjoyed his presentations through the years.
