The Upleveler #7

All previous editions can be found here including our pieces on curiosity, the use of improv, and what you might be missing about stories.

It's an eclectic list

Everyone at Choose To Thinq reads a lot, so in this week's edition, we'll just tell you seven of the more interesting non-fiction we've encountered so far in 2018:
  1. "Dongri To Dubai: Six Decades of Mumbai Mafia" by S.Hussain Zaidi: what you see in movies about the underworld may not be all that far-fetched!
  2. "Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World": helping knowledge workers find flow and high impact, all before 5 pm each day.
  3. "The Military Despatches of a 17th Century Indian General" by J.N.Sarkar: Even then, a large number of the conversations were about bureaucracy, maintaining supply and momentum, and 'keeping the  employees' happy. Not so much about battle.
  4. "Measure What Matters" by John Doerr: all about OKRs, the goal-setting system that Google swears by.
  5. "University of Berkshire Hathaway" by Daniel Pecaut and Corey Wrenn: a compilation of notes from the annual shareholders meetings of Berkshire Hathaway.
  6. "The Power of Moments" by Chip and Dan Heath: why some moments stand out in memory.
  7. "Nawabs, Nudes, Noodles: India through 50 years of advertising": a slice of history through the lens of people trying to sell us and our parents stuff we didn't always need.
More at the end of the year.

  1. A complete list of our in-house talks so far, ranging from an introduction to games, feminism, and behavioural economics.

  2. Your employees won't read. But why let that hold your organisation back?

  3. With IKEA entering India, it's a good time to surface this post on how they co-created with children.
