MEETING ROUND-UP
Over 70 people attended a very warm August Newark Business Club meeting to hear Nick Wallace of Severn Trent Water Authority talking about the Newark sewer works.

Nick is Newark Waste & Water Improvement Project Manager and has been responsible for organising the mammoth operation in the town to replace and upgrade the sewer system.

Newark has had a long-term flooding problem with over 400 properties also at risk of sewer flooding. The new sewer and clean water system, which is costing £60 million, will be complete by March 2020.

The new and replacement system has involved a variety of construction methods that have been utilised to minimise the disruption above the ground and Nick gave a very interesting presentation of the different techniques being used across Newark. One example is the work under Northgate that has taken 17 weeks to complete using new technology and building methods, would have taken 18 months to complete not so long ago.
