Dear Reader,

You may have noticed that you haven't heard from us in a while...or, let's face it, you may not have noticed, given the deluge of electronic communication that modern life entails. Either way, we're happy to have a newsy newsletter to share with you this week.

We've had a busy summer of big behind-the-scenes projects, including updates to our Reader Rewards program, an exciting fall event schedule, and a new-and-improved website that will make online browsing and ordering so much more pleasant for you (and us). We can't wait to share all the news and updates with you, so read on! And be sure to ask at the shop if you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback. We love to hear from you.

Book launch for Priscilla Paton's Where Privacy Dies

Thursday, August 16th @ 7 pm

Content is pleased to host the book launch for Priscilla Paton's debut mystery, Where Privacy Dies.

An executive's corpse is discovered in a Minneapolis wetland, and with it the photo of a girl. Is she unconscious or dead? Detective Erik Jansson takes on the investigation and is mismatched with a new partner, the imposing Detective Deb Metzger. They soon learn that the murdered man worked for a reputation management firm that serves wealthy clients. Other employees from the firm have also vanished, but information is withheld from the detectives by a corporate cover-up.

Erik and Deb pursue promising leads about the identity of the photo girl. When these leads take them to a down-and-out family and a Northwoods cabin, they seem to be dead-ends--or are they?

Do you love your Reader Rewards? Well, you're about to love them even more.

We launched our Reader Rewards program in our first year of business, because we love having a way to show gratitude to our loyal customers every time we see them. If you've been enrolled*, you probably know that Reader Rewards gives you a 5% rebate on all your purchases at Content -- new and used books, toys and games, sale and full-price merchandise -- redeemable in the form of a $10 coupon issued at the register, each time your purchases add up to a $200 threshold. Everyone seems to love Reader Rewards, despite a couple of limitations: coupons have expired after 60 days, and your points have been non-transferrable.

As part of an overhaul of many of our behind-the-scenes systems this summer, we've made some great updates to Reader Rewards. The biggest one is that instead of a flat $10 coupon with every $200 in purchases, you can now redeem whatever points you've accrued (at the same 5% on all your purchases), as long as they're at least $10. So, if your last purchase left your running total at $250, we'll offer you $12.50 to redeem next time you're in the store -- as long as that's within two years.

And there's another feature we think our customers will love, because we know how much you like to share your love of reading: you can now donate your points to another customer (like your child or grandchild), or to one of the accounts we've set up for local school libraries. Just let us know when you're in the shop that you'd like to designate your points for any Northfield School District K-12 school, and we'll set it up for you. Then, your favorite school librarian will get a chance to shop for their school with your points -- which are equal to 5% of all your purchases. Take that, Amazon Smile!**

*Not enrolled? Not sure? Just ask us at the counter or call us at 507-222-9238 and we'll check for you.

**Amazon Smile donates a mere one half of one percent of some of your purchases to your designated charity. And unlike Content, they're not paying their fair share of taxes, either, so...the cost is higher, both to you and to your local schools, roads, and police. Just sayin'.

Content's 3rd Annual Back-to-Bookclub Night

Thursday, August 23rd @ 7 pm

Join us for one of our favorite nights of the year: Back-to-Bookclub Night at Content!

Are you just a little jealous of those back-to-school shopping lists the kids get to enjoy? The only thing better than the smell of freshly-sharpened pencils is the feel of a new book in your hands -- even better if you know you'll get to discuss your latest pick with friends. Join us for an evening of book talk with our Penguin Random House rep and Content staff as we present new books and undiscovered gems, perfect for book groups or your own next read. It’ll be a fun night of treats and camaraderie with your fellow book lovers. We'll even have a few door prizes, and book clubs that bring at least 3 members will get an extra discount on the evening's purchases. Don't have a book club? Bring a friend and get inspired - all book lovers are welcome!
