Coming up at the end of this year the Hockeyroos, Kookaburras, and the Victorian state teams - Vipers and Vikings are all playing at the State Netball Hockey Centre in Melbourne.
Hockey Victoria is offering clubs the chance to reserve tickets. This will allow our supporters to buy tickets through us rather than through the standard purchase, and all our seating will be together in a block. At this stage we are thinking of getting tickets in the Eastern Stand (uncovered) at $85.
We would love to know if you are interested in buying tickets as part of the Southern contingent, so we know how many to reserve. Please fill in this form to let us know if you are interested and how many tickets.
If you nominate an EOI before Tuesday, on Thursday when Southern receives our allocation you will have the opportunity to buy your tickets. Those who have entered an EOI will have first access to the Southern tickets.
The ticket covers all games 14 matches on the following dates;
2018 AHL – Round 2 v WA – Saturday 13 October
2018 AHL – Round 3 v SA – Sunday 21 October
2019 Pro League – Round 1 Australia v Netherlands – Saturday 2 February
2019 Pro League – Round 2 Australia v Belgium – Sunday 3 February
2019 AHL – 3 Home match days in October/November 2019 – dates TBC

Save the date for presentation nights.
The senior presentation night will be held on Friday 19th October at Milano's Hotel in Brighton. Save the date, tickets will be on sale shortly.
The junior presentation night is SEPTEMBER 14th at Farm Rd. The times for each age will be sent out shortly. We will be running a choccy toss to add to the fun of the night. Donations of chocolate would be much appreciated, and can be left at the uniform shop.
Big Match Day
This Saturday is a big match day with the Southern United premier league teams taking on TEM. With two rounds until finals, our teams would love all the support you can muster. The women premier league will be on at 2pm and the men at 3.30. Special winter food on at the canteen with King of the Roast serving pulled pork and beef rolls, as well as gourmet sausages. Our under 10s and 12s will be acting as guard of honour for our players after their mega training session with the premier league teams this Thursday.
Indoor Hockey
Are you interested in playing indoor hockey over the summer. There are lots of options available for those that are experienced indoor players through to those having their first try in this exciting version of hockey. Shield competitions will be held at MSAC in Albert Park, Pennant at Dandenong Hockey Centre, and a competition is also available at Skateworld (Not on skates). Under 16 School Sports Australia Championships
The Victorian Under 16 SSV teams finished 3rd (girls) and 4th (boys). Congratulations to our players: Craig Marais, Billy Hanrahan, Josie Lawton, Emily Hamilton Smith and Jamie Zimmerman.
Even more exciting, Craig and Emily have been selected in the School Sport Australia team to tour Europe next year, and Josie selected as shadow.

Australian Hockey League
Congratulations to Nathan Ephraums and women's premier league goalie Ginny Wilson in their selection in the squads for AHL. The Vikings and Vipers are playing in the AHL at the State Hockey Centre on the 13th and 21st October. Don't miss the fan package available.

A big round was needed by our teams, a great way to celebrate the birth of Hayes Mark L'Hullier, and a big round it was.
The women's premier league team second on the ladder, with the three girls away on the Gold Coast, played twelfth on the ladder and the remaining young girls - Molly, Emilia and Amy scored three for the 3-1 win. The women's team hold their second place on the ladder, and are now four points clear of third place Mentone, with Burra taking the points over Mentone. Two games to go: TEM (9th) and Altona (13th)
The men's team had around 8 players out from their firsts squad, but made short work of Yarra with a 5-0 win, 3 goals to Matt, celebrating Hayes birth, and two field goals - Carlin and Nathan. The men hold their third position on the ladder, and are now 3 points, and 3 goals goal difference ahead of Powerhouse. TEM - 13th and Altona 9th only 7 points behind Southern are the remaining two games.
The reserves teams had similar success - 5-0 for the women, with Ash scoring a hat trick and 5-1 for the men.

Men & Women's Pennant Round 16
|
|
The men's pennant D and E teams played at home on Saturday. The pennant D team have had a tough season, and very nearly pulled off the coup of the season when they were 1-1 with Camberwell, for Camberwell to score in the last second of the game. What a close game, well done pennant D. Pennant E on 18 points, mid ladder then played Brumbies on 30 points, and Southern men walked away with a clear win. Brilliant result for the pennant teams at Farm Rd on Saturday.
At Doncaster the women's pennant B continued their strong season with a 2-0 win over Donnie, while men's pennant C just could not find the goal going down 2-1. The WPB team are fourth on the ladder, six points, and 14 goal difference ahead of fifth, while the men's pennant C are safe in the top four.
The women's pennant E played at Brighton against Sandringham women for a 4-1 win, with Carien showing her stuff again with a hat trick. Brilliant work Carien. The women are second on the ladder, six points ahead of third and a significantly better goal difference.
Men's pennant A - a draw at Footscray, great work. Goals to Jack and Jelly. Great to see Nathan Shanahan and Mark Scully out on the pitch. Thanks Alfie and Hayden for doubling up.

Men & Women's Metro - Round 16
|
|
A mixed round for our metro teams. Men's Metro A on Saturday had a second loss in a row against Brumbies, they remain third, and need to produce some good hockey against Bayside next week. The women's metro A on Sunday went down 3-2 to Mentone with Mentone have the swifter legs, with Jane and Ruby scoring for Southern. The ladies are third on the ladder, seven points ahead of fourth, securnig the home final at least, although winning the last two rounds could secure the double chance.
It was great to see a large contingent on the pitch for the men's metro B game on Sunday, so many juniors coming up from under 16s to play in the two metro teams. Thanks Greg for the work on that, and a nice 4-0 win over Mornington, keeping their third position on the ladder. The women's metro B at Farm Rd on Sunday, with a few fill in players 3-2 over Waverley.

The Weekend
Round 13 of 14 rounds for our juniors, and for under 14 south their last round, with the sad feeling of a bye for round 14.
At Farm Rd on Friday night the under 14 mixed shield started the evening. An important game with Southern third on the ladder against Hawthorn fourth. A good result a 2-0 win for the 14s. Next week, the final round for under 14 shield could not have been scripted better with a 1v2 game (Camberwell / Essendon) and a 3v4 game (Southern / Geelong). The results in round 14 could give the Southern team the double chance if Southern beats Geelong and Camberwell beats Essendon.
The second game of the night, the under 16 mixed shield with four players away on the Gold Coast with SSV, and two others out, it was great to see Andre, Aiden and Anthony from pennant give a hand. The depleted Yarra team with two away also on the Gold Coast could not keep the Southern defenders busy with Southern taking the game 11-0. With other results of the weekend, the Southern 16 mixed shield are now clear as Minor premiers.
In the 14 mixed shield the last round of the season sees 1v2 (Southern/Waverley) and 3v4 (Doncaster/Camberwell). Although the results will always keep Southern on top of the ladder, they can affect the second, third and fourth places, with Altona fifth on the ladder playing Yarra.
At Dendy St the under 14 mixed pennant with only eleven players went down to top of the ladder Mentone 3-1. The 14 pennant place in the four is set
The black under 16 south team played top of the table St Bedes. Thanks Ashton for stepping in to umpire when Hayden was unwell. The game started well with Southern holding to 1 -1 at half time against undefeated St Bedes, but St Bedes ran away with the second half.
Under 16 Girls shield travelled to Geelong for a game that may allow them to sneak in to the top four. The result was as wanted a 2-1 win. Once again a huge thanks to Puck for finishing your game at Waverley and then just running down to Geelong to play, it is really appreciated. A good result next week against TEM (draw or win) should put the girls in the top four. While Under 14 girls shield had a tough game against TEM.
Under 18 Black team played a strong game against Mentone yellow, just going down 4-2, great work guys. While Under 18 Red at Monash played Knox. As of last week Under 18 Red are clear minor premiers. Like 14 and 16 shield the last round has been scripted perfectly - 1 v 2 (Southern / Mentone Blue) and 3 v 4 (Mentone Yellow/St Bedes). Like the 16s, the result will not change the minor premiership, but it can affect who Southern will play in the first round of finals.
Under 16 Red a great win against Knox 4-2. Thanks to all the players who helped out the under 16s who were so short this week. A special congratulations to Adam on your first game for Southern United, we hope it is the first of many.
Saturday morning at Farm Rd was its normal busy metropolis.
The under 12 boys shield wanted a win against Waverley to keep their sixth on the ladder and that they did was a 2-1 win. Great work boys. The under 12 boys pennant were last on before the seniors up against top of the ladder Knox in which Knox proved too tough.
The under 12 shield girls continued their great season with a strong 7-0 win over Footscray. With one game to go the girls are on top of the ladder, three points ahead of Camberwell. A top two position is now guaranteed, the results of the last round could change the order of the first two on the ladder. The Under 12 district girls continue their great term 3 with a win over Brunswick. A great season for all our under 12 girls.
The under 10 at Waverley had mixed results. The boys a 5-4 win with two goals to Charley and Josh, and one to Keiran. The Waverley girls proved to strong taking the points 5-2, with the two goals scored by Klara.
The under 12 district boys had the Sunday game against Maccabi, great work boys to once again come away with the 3 points on a Sunday game.
