Pioneer Resources - Opening Doors of Opportunity
"The people are the best part of our job"
(l-r) Group Home Supervisors: Tracy Kroll, Laquandra Robinson, Cindy Morden, Chris Pickel, Deb Ronning, Yvette Stuckey and Residential Program Manager, Anna Hinton.
Supervising a group home is both challenging and rewarding.  Since the homes operate 24/7, it’s not often that a supervisor is completely “off call”. While we have some great “on call assistants” to help, there are still situations that only the supervisor can handle, sometimes even while on vacation. Yvette said “it gets challenging at times with the family”.  The residential team works closely with one another, providing assistance with staffing shortages, brain storming new ideas and just being there for each other.  As Tracy stated “we have a great team of supervisors”. Interacting with the people we serve is very rewarding. Cindy said “The people are the best part of our job. There is never a time we lose our focus. They become a part of our family”.
  • Cindy Morden-Supervisor for Riverwood and Parkside homes since 1998. Previously, she has worked in direct care field since 1994.
  • Chris Pickel-Supervisor of Marcoux home since 2013.
  • Yvette Stuckey-Supervisor of Sheridan home since 1998. Yvette had worked in direct care since 1994.
  • Tracy Kroll-Supervisor of Lawrence and Broadway homes; most recently taking on the new Mill Iron home where the residents who currently live at the Broadway home will be soon be moving. Tracy has been a supervisor since 2006, but came to Pioneer Resources with more than 15 years experience in the Direct Care field.
  • Deb Ronning-Supervisor of Pioneer Home since 2006, Deb has worked at other positions at Pioneer Resources since 2002.
  • LaQuandra Robinson-Supervisor of Ruddiman home since 2016; Quan previously worked the direct care field since 1999.
  • Anna Hinton – Residential Program Manager. Anna has held many positions in the past 33 years with Pioneer Resources: Custodial Trainer, Food Service Trainer, Parkside Home Supervisor, Quality Assurance, Residential Program Manager and most recently added - Performance Improvement Specialist.
All the supervisors agreed that the residential support staff who work directly with the people we serve are invaluable. “We can’t do our job without the home staff. We have very good teams to work with,” said Cindy.  Anna said, “The improvements we see in the people we serve are a direct reflection of our supervisors and residential support staff." One resident has lost a significant amount of weight because of better eating habits, and some residents are working on skills to help them successfully live in their own apartment or house. The residential team is committed to making sure the people we serve receive the best possible care.

Mill Iron Home Open House
The Mill Iron Home had it's ribbon cutting at the Open House on Tuesday, August 28, 2018. A client, who will be moving from the Broadway Home into the brand new Mill Iron Home cut the ribbon with Jill Bonthuis, Executive Director of Pioneer Resources.

The Group home has an open space floor plan that allows easy wheelchair access throughout the home. The garage is large enough to pull in and unload residents from the lift so as not to have clients and employees in inclement weather.

Each client will have their own room. Each room is equipped with the Amazon Alexa-Echo show technology that is voice activated, and can do things for the residents such as turn on and off the lights, the TV.  It could even tell them a joke on request!.

The Mill Iron home was made possible through a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis as well as community sponsor of Community Shores Bank, and Pioneer Resources  financial commitment. Community needs like this residential home cannot be met without the ongoing support of our many donors through fundraising efforts.

We are thankful to all those who have made this journey possible.

Pictured here is Christine, a CLS client of Kate Robbins uses zucchini instead of pasta, so it’s super healthy!!!
Jason was taught by Kate Robbins, his CLS worker, to make his own breading for chicken today, "But we talked about other things (pork chops, etc...) that this would apply to as well," said Kate.  Doesn’t he look like a professional??"
