Intentional Living

I have had a different summer this year. I spent nearly a month in Edmonton caring for my dad in his last days as he battled cancer. You can’t go through such a heart-wrenching experience without taking time to ponder and think about what really matters in life. I have been thinking a lot about my many to-do lists and how I always struggle with balance in my life. Doing the things I want to do, the things that just need to be done, and finding time just to spend with friends and family. At the end of the day I have come to realize that first, we need the TIME to THINK, to ponder, to analyze and just contemplate what really matters to us. And second, we need be intentional about making time for those pursuits or those special people. Time away was a gift this summer. A gift for my parents as I was able to support them, a gift for me to have time to contemplate and be more intentional in my life with what matters most.

I’m home now and WOW, where did the summer go? Two more weeks and we officially launch into fall. Back to school, cooler nights, and the crazy busy apple harvest all begin. But let’s not wish summer away just yet. Take some time to contemplate on what we love about summer and be intentional about making it happen. Maybe it’s the last swim in one of the wonderful lakes in our area, perhaps it’s a picnic in the park or an outdoor barbecue just to celebrate friendships.

Summer at the farm means fresh-picked corn, vine-ripened melons and tomatoes, sweet, juicy peaches and the first varieties of apples. The market is full of amazing deliciousness that makes for easy meals or snacks bursting with flavour. Stuffed peppers, corn on the cob, and tomatoes seasoned with fresh herbs is a favourite summer time meal in our house. It’s great for family and entertaining friends alike. It’s so simple, so good and so fast! See the detailed recipe on our website or watch this quick video to get inspired!

Thanks for reading and being part of our farm and family journey. I challenge you to purposely focus on areas or pursuits in your life that are worth your precious time and align yourself closely with what you care about most.

Life is busy but do take time to enjoy and appreciate the last weeks of summer and time spend with those you love.

Still learning every day,
