President’s Message
The summer feels as though it was over in a flash! We’ve had a number of 4-H clubs and events running this summer and there are still a few to go before we begin the Awards Banquets.
One event, of international proportions, still to come this September is the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo, which is being hosted in our own county this year! Chatham-Kent 4-H is organizing a tent to showcase 4-H in our county and educate visitors attending the IPM. Come out and be a part of this memorable event, Chatham-Kent 4-H still needs volunteers to help man our tent. If you are interested in helping out please contact Jane Lawton, we would love to have you!

With all the 4-H activities that were running this past summer there are so many thanks to be made. We have had parents who have driven members to meetings and who have volunteered their time at events like the 4-H food booth at the Chatham-Kent Plowing Match. We have our members who enthusiastically attend meetings and fairs, organize Education Days for the Komoka Rabbit Club, and help fundraise for their club, be it with a tweet out to SeCan’s ‘Grow A Leader’ fundraiser or participating in a Chalk Board craft night for the Dairy Club. Also, a thank you to the leaders and board members too, who are willing to organize so many events and try new ideas so that 4-H in our county is always evolving.

Have a wonderful fall and harvest season. Enjoy the upcoming shows, like the IPM and the Highgate Fall Fair. I look forward to seeing you at these events and the upcoming banquet season.

Canoe & Kayak Club
What an amazing paddling season 2018 turned out to be!  50+ members enjoyed exploring the waterways of Chatham-Kent and Lambton County. The weather co-operated perfectly all summer and we had some great paddles. None of this would have been possible without the assistance of our many volunteers, both on the water and on land. It is a huge undertaking to run a Club of this nature - so needless to say the assistance is very much appreciated.

2018 marked our 16th season and over those years we have had hundreds of kids participate in the fun. It's heartwarming to meet up with former members, some of whom are now adults, who always have stories of how much fun they had with the Club - memories that will last a lifetime!

Leaders, Dawne Mudford, Marc Jacques and Dennis Carnegie wish to thank everyone (and there are many) who helped us out in way this season, be it cooking hot dogs, loading boats, paddling with us, trucking trailers, or shuttling vehicles. Our parent participation is nothing short of spectacular! And thank you to a great bunch of kids, who made all of our time and effort worthwhile!

Why did the farmer plow his field with a steamroller?

He wanted mashed potatoes!
