Hi Moms and Dads

Hope you all had a super weekend.
Please note that this week is a short week. We have a Public holiday on Thursday and a school holiday on Friday and no school on both those days!!!!
We wish all the wonderful women in our lives a FABULOUS WOMEN’S DAY!!!!!
Self-esteem part 2:
Self-esteem is the best gift any parent can give their child!!!!
Because knowing yourself and liking yourself is often the key to success.
On the other end of the scale low self-esteem causes- anguish, under-achievement, bad behaviour, relationship problems!!!
Remember that your self-esteem is influenced by how people in your life relate and treat you and by your own achievements.

Very Important…..As a parent your own self-esteem is important. It is vital to look after yourself at the same time and continue to grow alongside your child. So that you can:
Trust your instincts, your ability to do the job, and reclaim your authority.
(When we are going through a rough time it is hard to be patient and we make it more challenging for ourselves because we tend to neglect ourselves and then we just cope. We then don’t listen actively to our children, or partners. We feel that we have to be super parents, often we are single parents, we seem to be permanently exhausted, irritable and stretched. Looking after yourself makes you happier and more giving!!!
SO……….
  • Get a babysitter at times!
  • Spend 10 mins with your partner when they come home and insist your children give you that time.
  • Cook food sometimes the way you like it instead of always eating kids food!!!
  • Play your music!
  • Spend time with other parents, friends, adults.
  • Do an activity that doesn’t relate to parenting!
  • Then spend half or an hour of full time, full attention with your child, doing something they enjoy.)
  • In saying this you must remember however!!!!!
BUT………………..NEVER LOOK AFTER YOURSELF AT THE EXPENSE OF YOUR CHILD

****We need scrap paper for the children to draw on, please if you have any at home or at your office, please bring it in to school.

Please check lost property every day. The box is outside the Angelfish Classroom.

SECURITY GATE SYSTEM

For your child’s safety, please note that we have a gate security system that involves a fingerprint entrance device. Please use the bell, a button on the left hand side, in the little box at the gate if you have not registered your fingerprint yet. Cards will be issued to those whose fingerprints do not register properly.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU CLOSE BOTH GATES WHEN ENTERING AND LEAVING THE SCHOOL FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILDREN!

SCHOOL FEES

Please note that August School Fees are now due. Please pay timeously!!!

Please be sure that you have returned your signed fees commitment form to Jane in the office. We keep this on file and it is a commitment to pay your school fees.

Please note we are an Independent school and rely heavily on School Fees to pay teacher's salaries and the upkeep of the school. We only receive a small subsidy from the WCED for our Grade R children.

GEN South Africa and Countries: People from other lands
LANG Letter J j jelly, juice, jam, jar
MATHS Calendar months of the year. No 1-10 Number before/after/ more/ less and counting on.

Wed 8 August Dress up day for the Sharks Proudly South African or People from other countries.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the walk around the Wetlands and loved walking across the bridges. They looked at the various sign boards on display. We read the rules of The Wetlands, about the history of the area and looked at the boards about the various animals and snakes that are found in the Wetlands. A few children were eager to find a snake but I am not sure what their reaction would have been had we seen a one. We saw lots of birds and quite a few children thought they spotted crocodiles.
To end off our theme South Africa and People from other countries we will have a dress up day on Wednesday 8 August. The theme being People from different countries or proudly South African. Please do not buy an outfit. If you do not have anything then let your child wear the colours of the SA flag or the colour of another flag. The class have found learning about how other people live and the food they eat very interesting.
In our EQ lessons we discussed consequences for behaviour. As a group they decided what we should do if children break rules all the time. The boys love playing soccer and can't wait to get outside to play. As a result they are rushing their work and are also arguing about the rules and there have been lots of quarrels and spats that have needed adult intervention. They initially suggested 6 days no soccer, I do not think they realise how long that really is so we agreed that children who do not follow the rules and need constant adult supervision will be banned from soccer for 2 days. I have also decided that they will not play soccer on Mondays and Thursdays because they also need to extend their climbing and balancing skills and to ride scooters and play in the sandpit. On Mondays when I am in the garden I set out games and obstacle courses for them to do and I find that they rush everything to play soccer but the girls and boys who do not play soccer will play the other games and do the obstacle courses eagerly and are keen to do it a few times. Consequences for not sharing or taking turns when playing a game or with toys will result in leaving and finding a new area to play in if a child does not follow rules after a reminder and caution from an adult.

EQ:  Going for Goals:  Persistence
IQ:  Reptiles
Focus:  Gross Motor skills:  Balance, leg skipping and ball skills
Number Concepts:  Shapes:  making and following shape patterns, sorting shapes into colour or shape
Thank you to Hayden for bringing his bearded dragon Raygon for a visit on Friday morning and to Teacher Ingrid for bringing two of her tortoises in for the class to see.  The Starfish children are loving learning about reptiles, enthusiastic to grow their knowledge.
We continue to discuss "Reptiles" and "Persistence" when trying to achieve your goal.
I am very proud of my Starfish children as they are being very persistent in attaining their goals.  We already have one who has learned to tie his shoelaces and many who are persisting and almost there.  Keep it up Starfish!  Please encourage them daily to practice and persist.  There are still a few Starfish children who haven't posted their individual goal in the Goal box in our classroom.  Please discuss with your child what they would like to achieve, write it on a piece of paper and get them to post it in the Goal Box and encourage them to practice daily in order to achieve it.
We continue to focus on Gross Motor skills this week, especially balance, leg skipping and ball skills.  I encourage you to play ball games with your children to help grow their skills.
We continue to concentrate on Shapes for Number Concepts, making and following shape patterns and sorting shapes into colour/shape.  Encourage your child to find shapes in their environment as everything around us is made up of shapes.  Continue to play games involving numbers to consolidate their number recognition, rote counting and problem solving.
Please remember our outing to Lakeside Fire station.  Lifts are needed.  Please sign the consent form.  Thank you

Last week  Teacher Ingrid had brought her tortoises  for the children to see. This had been so lovely for everyone to experience. Thank you for  bringing your tortoises in for the class to see teacher Ingrid.
The Angelfish class has been doing so well by trying to achieve their classroom goals. this has been very good for self-esteem and each child has become so proud of themselves as many achieved the monkey bars and started doing many things for themselves in and around the classroom. Eg. Removing my own shoes, putting on my own jacket, packing my snack away in my bag, even counting to 10 etc.  I have asked every child to set a goal for themselves at home. PLEASE ask your child what their goals are, and help your child achieve this goal. Some said riding a bike with two wheels or cutting with a big boy scissors.

Hello parents,
Welcome to the 4th week of our 3rd term.
In this short week, our theme, Skill and EQ is going to be an extension of last week.
Please remember on Friday the school will be closed.
The parents' workshop which was held on Saturday last went very well and the Principal is considering to make it a regular event, addressing different topics on parenting and guest speakers will also be invited. So please bear this in mind and also consider getting involved so we can help each other to assist our children.
Lastly,  a special thanks to all parents who added more yummy toppings for our pizza. Children had a great experience, they enjoyed making their own pizza and eating it!
Have a super week!
