Governor Cuomo Announces Plan to Protect SNAP Recipients' Access to Farmers' Markets: Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that New York State and the Farmers Market Federation of New York have reached an agreement with the mobile application vendor, Novo Dia Group, to enable Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients to continue to use their benefits at farmers' markets across the state through the rest of the farmers' market season. Earlier this month, Governor Cuomo issued a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue urging federal action on this issue. Read the full release here.

Senator Murray and Rep Davis Introduce New Legislation to Bring New Momentum to Fight Summer Hunger: “The Stop Child Summer Hunger Act would give children access to food and improved nutrition during the long summer vacation, ensuring that children and teens return to school healthy and ready to learn. Read the full announcement here.

Webinar: Wallace Center's National Good Food Network: Value Chain Coordination: Bringing People Together: Thursday, August 30th. This webinar will detail considerations for two types of convening: one where seller and buyer are brought together in a celebratory yet business-focused way; the other where many actors within a more complex value chain are encouraged to take risks to build significant inter-business dependencies to bring about a new suite of products, which can lead to great rewards for all parties.  Learn more and register here.
Sidney Central School District's Green Thumb Growers Guild, the elementary school garden club, visited New York State's Commissioner of Agriculture & Markets Richard Ball's farm in July to learn about planting and harvesting vegetables. 
The students were given the opportunity to plant their own popcorn and clean some newly pulled garlic, shown in the image above.
