Date: Wednesday, September 5, 2018
Time: 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Venue: York Room, Redbridge Central Library, Clements Rd Ilford IG1 1EA

This meeting is a fantastic opportunity to make your voice heard on transport access and the redevelopment of Ilford Town centre. Redbridge Council will be coming along to talk us through their latest plans.

We need as many Deaf, Disabled and older people as possible to attend to show just how much support there is for a Redbridge that is accessible to everyone.

We are looking for volunteers for our Dementia Befriending Service. The role of the volunteer is to offer 1-1 support to reduce the isolation of people with dementia. Experience is not essential as we will provide training.  If you live in or around the Redbridge area and would like to make a difference, please contact Jodie on

People with hidden impairments including autism and mental health conditions will have the right to a Blue Badge

The new rules will give the Blue Badge to people who:

  • cannot make a journey without a risk of serious harm to their health or safety or that of any other person – this could include people with autism
  • cannot make a journey without it causing them very considerable psychological distress – such as someone with mental health problems
  • have very significant difficulty when walking - both the physical act and experience of walking

Respond to Transport for All's Patient Transport Experience Survey

Transport for All is looking for evidence from Disabled and older Londoners who use patient transport, following concerns about the eligibility criteria.

Our Advice Line recently received many calls from Disabled and older people being denied patient transport services by the Royal Free Hospital despite having a genuine need for it. In some cases, people have been denied this vital NHS funded transport for their appointments despite previously being eligible in the past.

The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. By responding you will help us gain a better understanding of the problem and allow us to gather testimonies to persuade hospitals to improve their patient transport services.

Social media companies and the Government have failed disabled people

A cross-party group of MPs believe that social media companies and the Government have failed disabled users and must act urgently.

"Our inquiry into online abuse and the experience of disabled people has shown that social media is rife with vile, degrading and dehumanising comments about people with disabilities. It’s time for action. We’ve listened to disabled people to come up with our recommendations to tackle online abuse of disabled people, and we will spend the summer listening to them again. By launching this consultation, we want to make it clear that the voices of disabled people must be heard."

To ensure the views of disabled people are heard, the Petitions Committee have launched a consultation on their draft recommendations for action. The draft recommendations are based on conversations with and evidence from disabled people, disability advocacy groups, the police and social media companies.

The Redbridge Hate Crime Pledge has been created to allow individuals and organisations in the borough to support and participate in ongoing efforts to reduce hate crime in the area. We would like to invite everyone to read and sign the pledge below. We regard any hate incident to be unacceptable and are committed to working in partnership to eradicate hate crimes across Redbridge.

By signing this pledge, we commit ourselves to a Redbridge where people are free to live, work and play without fear of hostility toward their race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or transgender identity.
