Upcoming Events

October 10th Presentation
Save the Date! Our speaker will be Eileen Christensen, winner of the 2018 Nevada "Iconic Women of Distinction Award" in STEM. She will give a presentation at Nevada State College on October 10th from 5:30-8:00 pm. The evening includes a meet-and-greet with refreshments followed by the talk from Eileen Christensen. Location details, a map, and the abstract will be provided in the next Newsletter.

National Chemistry Week in October
Our local section has participated in this chemistry awareness event for the last several years. This year we are partnering with the Discovery Children's Museum. The event will be held on Sunday, October 28th from 12:00 to 5:00 pm at the Discovery Children's Museum. Lots of volunteers are needed! (You can work for a couple of hours or the entire event) You would be working with kids ages 5-12 and helping them with chemistry activities. Please contact Erica Marti (echemie@gmail.com) to volunteer.

Annual Poster Competition in November
There are three competition categories for this annual event. High school students may participate in the Chemistry Art Poster competition, while college students may present their research in separate undergraduate and graduate poster competitions on November 17th at Nevada State College. There are monetary prizes for each competition! For questions about the high school art poster competition, please contact Roger Rennels (Roger.Rennels@csn.edu). The registration announcement for the undergraduate and graduate poster competitions will be available in September. For questions about this event or to volunteer as a judge for the research poster competition, please contact Amber Howerton (Amber.Howerton@nsc.edu).

Special Event in early December
Executive Committee members are working to arrange a special section activity such as wine tasting or chocolate tasting. More details will be provided in future newsletters.

Career Fair in March 2019
Due to special efforts from the Acting Chair Rampur Viswanath, staff from ACS National will host a special Career Fair in Las Vegas. This event is a great opportunity for students and those currently employed in chemistry-related jobs. Also, we encourage our long-standing members to get involved as mentors for students and those who are in the early stages of their careers. More details will be provided in future newsletters. For questions, please contact Rampur Viswanath (r.viswanath@yahoo.com).
