New Hospital: Update

On Tuesday, August 14th meeting, Niagara Falls City Council approved a Zoning By-Law amendment application to bring the new, Niagara South Hospital one step closer to fruition. The amendment rezones the lands at the northwest corner of Montrose Road and Biggar Road from Rural-Agriculture (RA) to a site specific Institutional zone (I).

Recognition of Donation: British Canadian Veterans Association

The 1812 Lundy's Lane Battlefield Redevelopment Project was made possible in part last year thanks to a $70,000 donation from the British Canadian Veterans Association (BCVA). The donation offset the costs of decorative display panels, accessible pathways and other landscaping features. Acting Mayor Vince Kerrio accepted the cheque from BCVA President, Jim Crabbe, along with Martin Goyetche, Treasurer, and our very own member Barbara Burrow, Past President. Congratulations

Would you like to help members in your community with low or modest incomes file their tax returns for free, and receive government benefits to which they may be entitled?

What is the CVITP? The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is an unique initiative within the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), where individuals with modest incomes and a simple income tax situation can have their income tax prepared free of charge by volunteers in their community. They have been offering this service for 47 years.

The CVITP supports community organizations by offering training and free income tax software for volunteers. The CRA also provides guidance and Efiling software to community organization coordinators as they deliver the program.
The Coronation Centre has agreed to host a clinic for the upcoming tax season. Is this something you may be interested in doing? Stay tuned for more info coming soon.

Please consider Volunteering for us. We have shifts available for once a week, once or month, or just occasionally. The Centre relies heavily on our volunteers to run programs, and to keep our clothing store and Cafe open.
Applications are available at the office. Just simply fill in your availability i.e, what day and time and we will match you up.

Arts & Culture Wall of Fame: 2018 Inductees

Council approved all three proposed inductees to the City's Arts & Culture Wall of Fame: REZZ, Alan Barillaro and Jim Cooper. A ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Niagara Falls Public Library on Victoria Avenue where the Wall is currently housed.

Vacation Rental Units: Update

At the August 14 meeting of Council, proposed Zoning By-Law amendments regulating Vacation Rental Units (VRUs) and Bed & Breakfasts, were approved by Council. The changes define Bed & Breakfasts as owner-occupied only. VRUs, however, are only allowed in non-residential zones and as such do not require owner-occupation. A notice of the amendments will be issued and the appeals process will be initiated.
