CAMP MEETING 2018
Quotes
Random “nuggets” garnered from various presentations—there were 18 seminar speakers and 7 main guest pastors. Amazing.
- Mission was not made for the church. The church was made for mission—God’s mission.
- The purpose of being a disciple is not only to proclaim the good news of the Gospel, but to demonstrate the love of God to people who are in need.
- Real church begins when the worship service ends—when people go out to immerse themselves in the community’s needs. Leaders of all divisions in the church should be patient, kind and compassionate with one another, forgive each other, never hate one another, be humble toward each other and have fellowship with one another. They do need accountability, but they also need love and encouragement. Thus fellowship is so very important.
- Our purpose is not just to “win people over” to our beliefs but, like Andrew the disciple, to bring people to Jesus.
- To be like Jesus is to be a servant. If we are not a true servant we do not qualify as a leader. When our life is a storm, don’t forget that Jesus is in your boat. Jesus trusted in His Father, and slept peacefully. Shouldn’t we? Forget your own feeble efforts to save yourself. That’s useless. Turn your life over to Him. Stay close to Him, emulate Him and He’ll save you and keep you in the way of salvation. Then you will also be able to relax, rest and enjoy His unending grace.
- We do should not seek value in those we love. Like Jesus, we should create value in the ones He loves—all people.
- Salvation is not just to obtain, but to retain.
- Ask not “what is truth?” but rather Who is the truth? Jesus.
- We often ask how we can be the best church in the community (the focus is on us). We should rather ask how can we be the best church for the community (the focus then is on others).
- Do not look at people as projects. Look at them as children of God, whom He loves dearly and Whom He wants to be with for eternity.
- We can’t say, “I love God but I don’t necessarily love all people.” For all people are God’s people.
- Some refer to us as Seventh-day Eventists. We hold an
“event” (program, seminar, evangelistic series 1-6 per year) but never really “mingle” with the community beforehand, during or even after. Determine what God is calling you to do for Him. Remember the simple formula Ellen White penned? Mingle, find needs, fill those needs, and then ask people to follow Jesus.
- Do not merely serve for Jesus (relying on your skills or resources) but serve with Jesus, relying on His skills, power and Holy Spirit.
- And witnessing is not just about your ability, but your availability.
- Don’t just give people information—head to head, but give them care and comfort with love—heart to heart
- With Jesus—discover grace, grow in grace
Now Lord, help us apply these concepts, through Your grace.
