Louisville Adventist Academy's Bi-weekly Newsletter
August 31, 2018
Hello, <<First Name>>.

The school year is flying by already and there are lots of things happening here at LAA. Open house is just around the corner, we are recruiting volunteers for the fall festival, and Grandparents Day is coming soon too! Be sure to read all the details below!
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
-Joshua 1:9

Principal MatthewsPrincipal's Message

Well, all the staff are still alive and kicking and our students seem to have made the adjustment back to school. A hearty welcome back to Ms. Lillian, our Spanish teacher, and Mrs. Oms, our music teacher, and a big welcome to Denise Manson, our new Algebra II teacher.
Our state fair field trip was a super success. Thanks to all of the parents who helped with transportation. Some of our students were exhibited in performances throughout the fair and gave a laugh to the rest of the student body.
We’ve got great news! We are finally the proud owners of a 2017 Ford Transit, which means we can now transport 11 students at one time to and from the gymnasium, field trips, etc. The colorful printed September calendar will be coming out shortly thanks to Lianne. Come see your student(s) classroom and meet the teachers during our open house next Thursday. Volleyball practice starts Sept. 10, and basketball starts Sept. 13. Heads up that our IOWA testing is coming up at the end of the month, and DIBELS testing will be next week for Grades K-4. Blessings!

Announcements

LAA Open House
Open house is this coming Thursday, September 5, from 3:30 to 7:00 pm. Our open house includes teachers explaining what is required of the students this year and, of course, an opportunity for you to meet your student’s teacher(s) personally. Students will be displaying their work and there will be a few surprises along the way. We are excited about meeting each and every one of you! Come chat with your student’s teacher regarding any questions you may have about homework, tests/quizzes, projects, etc. Light refreshments will be served.

On Tuesday, September 11, from 8-9 am we will be having a special event, "Goodies & Grands" Day at LAA. All grandparents (or “adopted” grandparents) are invited to join us for some refreshments, fun activities, and the opportunity to get in the classroom with their favorite students. Please invite any grandparents (or close friends that are grandparents) to join us for the day!
Cookie Dough!
Eighth grade is raising money for their class trip and graduation, and they need the whole school’s help to get the most orders possible! The students will be given sales booklets today, before the holiday weekend. They will be competing among the classrooms for the highest percentage of sales per student in order to win a pizza party. Orders will be due September 28. Click here for full details.
Birthday Celebration Ingredients
We seem to have had a lot of student birthdays already this year! We ask that parents bringing cake/cookies/snacks for birthday celebrations make a copy of the ingredients list and turn in to the office to keep on file in case of an allergic response. Thank you for your cooperation!
Fall Festival
Do you enjoy planning events?  Looking for ways you can be a blessing to your school community?  Help is needed with planning and implementation of our annual Fall Festival on October 15th. Please call Tabitha Sikes 812-786-5373 to volunteer today. There are many ways you can assist, from setup and teardown to planning to “manning” various stations for an hour or two during the event. We cannot do this without you!
Ideal Care Permission Slips Still Due
Some students still have not turned in their Ideal Care permission slip. Please click the link below, print and sign the slip if you have not already done so and turn it into the office right away.

Health Nugget - Boredom Busters
"So, why do you exercise? Maybe it’s to maintain your weight, reduce stress, or have more energy. Perhaps you’re concerned about protecting your health. All good reasons, to be sure, but you may be overlooking one of the most important—to have fun!

Having fun while exercising? It’s not an oxymoron. If you enjoy what you’re doing, working out stops feeling like a chore and instead becomes something you’ll look forward to—even if you’ve had trouble sticking to an exercise routine in the past.
When exercise is fun, you’re more likely not only to work out, but also to exercise at a higher level. And that means you get more results from your efforts.
Focusing on fun can also help change your mind-set that working out has to be boring or difficult.
‘It really doesn’t matter what exercise burns the most calories per hour, or which exercise your best friend likes best,’ says Joan Price, author of The Anytime, Anywhere Exercise Book. ‘What you need to find is what’s best for you. If it’s an activity you enjoy and look forward to, it can make exercise a treat, not a treatment.’”

Box Tops for Education
We participate in box tops for education, so clip those box tops and bring them in to the office! They are on many products everyone uses, so keep your eyes open for them.

If you shop regularly at Kroger, please take a moment to sign up for their community rewards program. It does not cost you anything, and Kroger will donate to our school based on the amount of sales we have from families that are signed up. This past quarter we had 31 families participating and earned $175! It only takes a minute to help us raise funds for the school without costing yourself a dime! You can register your Kroger shoppers card online today at krogercommunityrewards.com. Simply search by name to add LAA as your preferred charity.
