A new TWG turning season begins on September 10, the second Monday of the month. There's a great program shaping up that you'll love, but please curb your enthusiasm  don't show up on Labour Day.

Remember to bring cash or a cheque so you can renew your membership at the meeting. Refer to the Guild' s Membership webpage for further information.

Kade Bolger on Finishes

On Monday, September 10, Kade Bolger will be talking to us about appropriate finishes for different projects and will share some of his favourite finishes.

Kade is from Whitby, Ontario, but he grew up in Alberta admiring his Irish grandfather’s wood carvings, which inspired him to take up wood carving at a young age. As an adult he joined the Brooklyn (Ontario)
Woodcarving Club to strengthen his carving skills. That led him to the Durham Woodworking Club in Oshawa where he was introduced to the wood lathe through a Woodturning 101 Workshop. That workshop sparked a passion for woodturning.

Mentored by local and international woodturners, and driven by his own initiative, Kade's skills blossomed. He has won prestigious awards at the Woodturners Guild of Ontario Competitions in the Intermediate (2015), Advanced (2016) and Masters (2016) Categories. He's been invited to display at Ravensong Gallery and the One-of-a-Kind Online marketplace and his work has been featured as the Cover Image for World Of Woodturning website and the Woodturners Guild Of Ontario website. Kade's artist's statement pays tribute to his inspiration.
Hands-On Turning Workshop
The TWG Executive has decided to put the hands-on sessions on hiatus for 2018-19. Attendance in the past couple of years, particularly in the winter, has been disappointing. The Executive wants to hear from members about how we can go forward after this year.
Last Meeting Report
The TWG showcase was held at our June 4 meeting. We saw some wonderful pieces that were turned by our members in 2018. The largest number of entries was in the wig stand competition. Many thanks to all who took part as competitors as well as the organizers and judges.
See more of David Churchill's great photos of TWG meetings by going to the Gallery page on the TWG website.
News
The AAW has just published edition 7 of its Woodturning Fundamentals. This publication is targeted at beginning turners, but is only available to members. Volume 7 talks about the importance of grain direction and offers a few projects to help understand the tricks of grain direction.
The Toronto Woodturners Guild encourages all its members to join and support the AAW.
Show & Tell Table
After a summer of turning a few of you must have work that you'd love to show. Don't forget: an entry at the S&T table will get you two tickets for the raffle.
