Faith, hope and hate in Nordisk Panorama's festival programme

Nordisk Panorama has now released the programme for this year's film festival, which kicks off in Malmö on 20-25 September. And as in previous years, the majority of screenings will take place at Spegeln Cinema
but also at other exciting venues in Malmö.

The festival programme contains several world premières, beginning with Malmö-based filmmaker Stefan Berg's film "Leslie on Fire", about the artist Leslie Tay. The film opens this year's festival with an inaugural party at Moriskan. In the film "Leslie on Fire", Leslie Tay faces the most challenging project of his life – the release of his long-awaited debut album. Through material that covers a 15-year period, we follow Leslie as he strives to become loved for his music and to break through as an artist. Despite his move to Stockholm, he is constantly reminded of the brutality in his childhood environment of Sofielund in Malmö.

Nordisk Panorama, Svenska Kyrkan and Doc Lounge invite you to St Johanneskyrkan for "Sacred Cinema", with a free screening of the Norwegian documentary "Per Fugelli - I Die" about social commentator and doctor Per Fugelli's struggle with cancer.

"It's always exciting when you take a film outside the classic cinema environment. To see Per Fugelli - I Die in St Johanneskyrkan will be a wonderful film experience", says Nordisk Panorama's festival producer, Viktor Jepson.

In a collaboration with BoostHbg and local filmmakers such as Bombina Bombast, AutoImages and Klassefilm, this year's festival features Virtual Reality in all its forms. In the VR film "Kinematografi", we enter the head of a woman who believes that she's in an Ingmar Bergman film, and in "Cosmic Top Secret" visitors get to play a virtual documentary video game. Everyone's welcome to Spegeln's foyer, where they can discover VR and try out a range of games.

This year's film programme contains several Nordic short and documentary films that have already won many of the international film industry's biggest prizes. These include the Danish film "The Distant Barking of Dogs", about 10-year-old Ukrainian boy Oleg, who lives with his grandmother on the frontline in eastern Ukraine, where they try to live their lives as the war continues around them.

The festival also presents the much talked about Swedish documentary "The Deminer", which is a portrait of a brave Kurdish man. Armed only with nerves of steel, a simple protective vest and a pair of pliers, Fakhir is guided through minefields by his experience and intuition.

In the documentary "Raghu Rai – An Unframed Portrait", Avani Rai follows her father – photographer Raghu Rai, who is known for his photographs of figures such as the Dalai Lama and Mother Teresa.

This year's short film programme contains 20 nominated short films divided into groups with exciting names such as "Funny Games", "Nearest and Dearest", "Tilted Axis" and "Rebels with a Cause".

With over 900+ accredited guests from the Nordic and international film industry, there will be plenty of opportunities to network and party with filmmakers and producers at the festival's popular happy hours and the Nordic Nights club at Grand Öl & Mat. The collaboration with dok.incubator also continues, this year offering previews of forthcoming documentaries at the Panora Cinema.
