First Sepsis dashboard of its kind

This month, on World Sepsis Day, we welcomed Caroline Dinenage, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Social Care, along with Celia Ingham Clark, NHS England’s Medical Director for Clinical Effectiveness, to a briefing visit at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. We briefed the Minister on our new Suspicion of Sepsis (SOS) Insights Dashboard, due to be launched later this month.
Caroline Dinenage released a short video clip about her visit.

For the first time ever the SOS Insights Dashboard, developed by our ICHP patient safety and business intelligence teams, enables organisations to see an overall picture of hospital admissions coded in the SOS category, at a local, regional, and national level. The Dashboard also provides intelligence as to whether interventions and innovations in sepsis / infection care are improving outcomes for patients. It will also help Trusts to better plan and prepare local services, potentially saving lives across the country.

The SOS Insights Dashboard is a great example of what can be achieved through our cross-system collaboration. We created the Dashboard as part of our work within the Patient Safety Collaborative (PSC), with NHS Improvement’s Patient Safety Measurement Unit (PSMU) and NHS England also providing unique breadth to help bring partners together and spark cross-boundary critical conversations.

So far, West London NHS Trust, Hillingdon Hospital Trust, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, as well as a range of GP practices, are helping drive patient recruitment through a number of their own internal channels.
