Join us for a syllabus workshop on Tuesday, August 21st from 1:00PM - 3:00PM in Piper Hall. This workshop offers faculty an opportunity to workshop syllabi for the upcoming semester. Through guided peer review and discussion, faculty can share best practices, talk through course policies and course design, and explore strategies for active, student-centered learning.
Please RSVP below. We ask that workshop participants bring 2-3 copies of their syllabus to the workshop. You can also email a copy to experiential@luc.edu and we'll print copies for you. The first 20 folks who RSVP for the workshop will receive copies of Linda Nilson's classic teaching guide, Teaching at its Best!

The Writing Program invites you to a lecture by Andrea Lunsford:
Teaching Argument in the Era of of "Fake News" and "Post-Truth"
Currently the Louise Hewlett Nixon Professor of English Emerita, and Founding Director of the Program in Writing and Rhetoric at Stanford University, Andrea Lunsford has designed and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in writing history and theory, rhetoric, literacy, and intellectual property. Lunsford is most recently known for her landmark study of undergraduate writers, which largely dispelled the myth that social media was destroying student writing. She is also well known for her advancement of multimodal communication, collaborative writing, feminist rhetoric, literacy studies, and intellectual property rights.

The Center for Experiential Learning has launched a new certificate program for Loyola’s faculty to build strategies in teaching experiential learning courses.
Faculty will begin by submitting a course syllabus on which they plan to work and enhance with experiential learning the following semester/year. Faculty will be encouraged to engage in 6 workshops; as a culminating project, faculty will share a course syllabus including the experiential learning course elements. Join the Center for Experiential Learning for a monthly series of writing workshops designed to provide dedicated time and space for faculty to develop engaged research and scholarship.
This workshop series aims to foster scholarship of teaching and learning, community-engaged scholarship, and publicly-engaged writing across the disciplines and across the university. As conversations around social justice intensify on the national level, the CEL invites you to take some time to think about how you can cultivate a just classroom environment through how you teach, as well as what you teach. Join us for a reading group on social justice pedagogy. We’ll be reading and discussing bell hook’s triumvirate Teaching to Transgress, Teaching Community, and Teaching Critical Thinking. Academic Internships Affinity Group Lunch and Learn

Academic Internships are a university wide initiative. Program components are facilitated out of the Center for Experiential Learning (CEL). However, the student’s experience is shaped by multiple stakeholders across LUC. The original impetus for convening this group is to enable:
- Internal (LUC) information sharing
- Role clarification to streamline student experience
- Internal discussion processes, communication, and partnerships
- Opportunity to meet once a semester

The Communities in Solidarity program funds community immersion in engaged learning courses. Apply for up to $500 each semester to help your class connect to Rogers Park and Edgewater. Take your class to a local organization, restaurant or museum or support their Engaged Learning efforts through honoraria for speakers and/or facilitated training from community partners. Apply below!
Priority will be given to participants in the Certificate in Experiential Learning Faculty Development Program.
