Ingleside, TX

2017-18

Before
&
After
We've had a busy summer so far in HOTexas!!  It is hot, usually between 110-115 heat index and we're soaked from the humidity.  Unfortunately, I've had a bad heat rash several times and that isn't fun!!

We're trying to stay focused on Don's, but occasionally get side tracked with other projects.  The first three sets of pics above are some of those sidetracks!!

Chris and his parents live in the house pictured above (top left and middle).  Their roof was already done and actually done well, something we haven't seen much around here!  We were able to get our engineer friend to determine that it will pass Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) standards The work we're doing- backboard, house wrap, siding, trim, windows, doors, and soffit, will also be to TWIA  specs so Chris will be able to be TWIA certified for the first time since they built the house in the 80's.  We're working with a group of volunteers from Concordia Lutheran in San Antonio on Chris's home.  They've been able to purchase some materials and send a team two different times.  They're working on sending another group for next week and hoping to send more.  He also has a lot of interior damage that needs to be redone.  They're also in need of funds and of course more volunteers!

The next set was a small job for Saul.  He needed some siding and porch/stair railing replaced.  The group from Concordia did this project.  He also needs a roof, but doesn't have the funds and we don't have the volunteers able to do it.

The next set of pics is from Monica's (top right and middle row).  She is a young widow with a few kids and grand kids living with her.  We were able to get the bottom 4' of siding and all the trim replaced and caulked on their home.  Concordia helped start this project, then Mary Jo and I and Monica and some of her family (including her nine-year old granddaughter who worked very hard helping MJ) helped us finish it up.  They also need a roof and some interior repair, but again have no finances and we have no help.

We have another project that is funded by a Lutheran Church in another nearby town.  It is rewiring Suzanne's home, which was built in the early 1900's.  It needs a complete electrical change out.  After the home was damaged, it was discovered that the electric was extremely outdated and very unsafe.  The Ingleside code enforcement agreed to not shut off her electric if we would redo the entire house.  We'll get to it as soon as we either get someone qualified or willing to follow my instructions, or we finish Don's.

There are two other homes that also need new roofs and some interior work done.  Both homes belong to elderly women who live alone.  Neither of them have the funds and we don't have the volunteers to work on their homes.

The last set of pictures is from Don's house.  This continues to be our main focus.  Since our last email we have gotten the TWIA Certification/Inspection.  We also just had our electrical and framing rough-in inspections.  We passed all of these the first time with no issues!!  We have the AC being done next week (we hired this out), insulation of the walls and ceilings on Saturday, and we start the plumbing tomorrow.  We also need to get the crawl space cleaned out and the floor insulated and vapor barrier installed soon.  Sheetrock is coming soon!!  Of course we still need volunteers to help with Don's as well, but his work is funded.

Lastly, we've recently been blessed with a fifteen-passenger van and a second travel trailer.  We've been borrowing the van from Calvary Chapel Clovis, NM via Quint since we've been in TX and it has been a huge blessing.  They thought The LORD wanted us to have it and we're working out the details for that now.

As for the travel trailer, we've been borrowing a smaller one since we've been in Ingleside from Bless You, Inc, and it has worked out really well with housing 1-4 people.  Since we seem to get so many repeat "offenders" (our affectionate name for volunteers willing to come back multiple times) and seeing how well having this one has worked out, we began praying about whether or not having one of our own full-time was something The LORD wanted us to have.  A family that has served with us stayed in the one we're borrowing, and saw the blessing it was to them, felt led by The LORD to purchase one for us.  We had several people throughout the country looking for one and located one in CO that appeared to be exactly what we were looking for at a great price and in great shape!!  It's a little older and smaller than the one we live in, but for shorter visits, it will work well.  It has four bunk beds in the back, the couch and dining table each fold out to sleep up to 2 each, and there's a queen size bed in the front.  It also has a full bathroom and kitchen!!  The couple that found it for us is currently going through it, ensuring that it is road worthy and in hopes that we won't run into any major issues after it gets deployed!

We think you've just run out of excuses to not serve alongside of us!!

I just put a short video together of the work we did on just the outside walls at Don's house, to view it, click here.

God is sooooo good all the time!!  We so appreciate your prayers and support!!  Keep em coming!!

Love you guys,
Curt & Mary Jo
