English Language Learners (ELLs) must not only acclimate to a new country, culture, and language, sometimes without their parents or relative. They also have to adapt to a school curriculum and culture designed for native speakers.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the percentage of ELLs in kindergarten is 16.3%. By Grade 12, they are only 3.9%.
