ASIS&T 2018 SIG InfoLearn Workshop, Nov 10 2018, Vancouver, Canada

“Coordinating Scholarship in Searching as Learning”

The Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T) has a new Special Interest Group, SIG Information and Learning Sciences (SIG InfoLearn) which is hosting a pre-conference event at ASIS&T 2018, in co-operation with SoLAR.

This workshop will aim to augment and clarify our scholarly community’s shared understanding of what is meant by the nomenclature, “searching as learning.” We will explore the kinds of research that might be promising for ongoing engagement within the boundaries of search, information-seeking, inquiry and learning. A keynote from Dr. Dan Russell of Google will provide insights on the design and development efforts occurring within commercial search services that take into account human learning, cognition and development.

Deadline for position papers: Sept 25 2018
Details: Sat. Nov. 10, 2018, 8:00am – 12:00pm, Hyatt Regency, Vancouver, BC.
More information on the event can be found on the InfoLearn SIG website

Reminder: LAK19 Call for Papers - Deadline October 1st 2018

SoLAR's 2019 international conference on Learning Analytics & Knowledge will take place in Tempe, Arizona, USA hosted by Arizona State University. We take learning analytics to be the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for purposes of understanding and optimizing learning and the environments in which it occurs. We extend invitations to researchers, practitioners, educators, leaders, administrators, government and industry professionals interested in the field of learning analytics and related disciplines.

LAK19 will place particular emphasis on exploring ways in which institutions around the globe are advancing the state of learning analytics in order to promote inclusion and success. Arizona State University, the host institution for LAK19, proclaims in its charter that ASU is ‘measured not by whom it excludes, but by whom it includes and how they succeed’.  Learning analytics play a significant role at many institutions in helping to promote these values.

Submission deadline for main track categories (Research, Practitioners, Workshops, Tutorials and Doctoral Consortium): 1 October 2018
