On July 10, more than 200 students, alumni, employers, and staff gathered at the National Press Club in Washington DC for the second annual APSIA Career Networking Reception.

Alumni and students from across thirteen APSIA members were able to connect with representatives of 22 organizations in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Participating organizations include Brookings, Eaton Vance, Mercy Corps, and the US National Security Agency.

Attendees had the opportunity to focus their interactions across six areas: consulting, development, education, energy and the environment, health, and security.

Fellowship Spotlight

Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship Program
Application Deadline

The Charles B. Rangel Graduate Fellowship is a U.S. Department of State program, administered by Howard University, that attracts and prepares young people for a career in international service. This program's benefits include: two summer internships (one summer working on Capitol Hill and the following summer working at a U.S embassy or Consulate overseas); an orientation to the Program and the Foreign Service at Howard University in Washington, D.C. in late spring 2019; mentoring from a Foreign Service Officer throughout the duration of the fellowship; and up to $37,500 annually toward tuition, fees and living expenses for a two-year master's degree in fields related to the Foreign Service, such as Business Administration, Economics, Public Policy, and International Relations at a U.S.-based institution. Fellows who successfully complete the program and meet the Foreign Service entry requirements will receive appointments in the State Department Foreign Service, committing to a minimum of five years of service.

Alumnus Experience Spotlight: Jongbeom Choi

Jongbeom Choi, Master's in Global Economy and Strategy, Alumnus, Graduate School of International Studies at Yonsei University

Jongbeom (JB) Choi holds a Master's degree in Global Economy and Strategy from the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) at Yonsei University, Republic of Korea.

He currently serves as a Program Officer for the Asia Foundation Korea Office.
Before joining the Foundation in 2016, he worked for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS), and the ASEAN Cyber University Project Secretariat (ACU)—an Official Development Assistance (ODA) Project supported by the Korean Ministry of Education targeting members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). His research interests focus on Korea’s unification issues, as well as Asia’s political, economic, and development cooperation.

Yonsei University was founded in 1885 and is the oldest private university in Korea. Ever since its beginnings, Yonsei has been at the forefront of higher education in Korea.
