August 22, 2018
Dear <<First Name>>,

What a busy first day it was! After the initial greetings by heads of various organizations, the first Keynote Panel focused on Children’s Rights and the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child. We heard from six speakers, among them Marek Michalak, Ombudsman for Children from Poland, Carrie Basas, Director from the Washington State Governor’s Office of Education, Bernard Richard, Representative for Children and Youth from Victoria, British Columbia, and Bruce Klasner, the high school Holocaust Studies teacher from Everglades High School in Miramar, Florida.

We were reminded by Mr. Klasner about the events of February 14, 2018, at Marjory Stonemen Douglas in Parkland, Florida, where 17 lives were lost. Mr. Klasner spoke passionately about the need of teaching tolerance, and shared with us a powerful video from his Holocaust Studies class. Take the time to watch it, and hear students talk about the events in Germany in the 1930s-1940s.

peace, mariola
