NEW THIS YEAR:
Class Distribution Lists!

Parents and family members play a crucial role in building a school community and supporting teachers in the classroom. To encourage and facilitate this process, the Lakeshore PTA has created class specific distribution lists this year, READY FOR IMMEDIATE USE by any of you who wishes to connect and communicate with other parents in your child's class.

The pattern for your class' email list is rm#-1819@LakeshoreElementary.org.
For instance, for room 6, it would be
rm6-1819@LakeshoreElementary.org.
For room M2, it would be
rmm2-1819@LakeshoreElementary.org.

We are working hard with our school leaders to constantly update these email lists with the correct emails for each class. If your information has changed, please either use http://bit.ly/ls-cci to update your information, or email pta@LakeshoreElementary.org to let us know what needs to be changed. You can also email us to be removed from your class distribution lists. Thank you for everyone's patience in this process!

Finally, if you are interested in being a room parent in your child(ren)'s class, you are encouraged to use your class list emails to start organizing and coordinating with fellow classroom parents ASAP. No more having to wait until Back-to-School Night or the first PTA meeting to start supporting your teachers as room parents! Learn more about being a room parent here (English and Chinese).
Lakeshore Community Picnic
Sunday, September 9

Stern Grove East Meadow
12pm - 3pm
Let’s catch up after summer break, welcome new families and celebrate the start of the school year at the Lakeshore community picnic. Bring a dish to share. RSVP with Eventbrite here.
Join or Renew Your Lakeshore PTA Membership NOW
Please join Lakeshore’s PTA community and connect with teachers, families, and students. The PTA is a nation-wide, volunteer-based, non-profit organization of parents, relatives, school staff, and community members, all dedicated to ensuring the best outcomes for children and families. Its mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

Parent involvement is the greatest predictor of student success. When you join, you have the chance to make your voice heard. Only Lakeshore PTA members can vote at our PTA meetings and your voice and input are invaluable. Members are also covered by PTA insurance when they volunteer at events.

Annual membership is just $10 and a small private grant is available for those with financial need. About half of this fee goes directly to the state and national PTA to fund child and family policy initiatives. The other half will go towards funding Lakeshore PTA's budget priorities.

This year, Lakeshore is using TOTEM, an electronic system developed for the California PTA that allows people to join online. It automatically and immediately provides a receipt and an electronic membership card, which can be stored on a smartphone. Your info will never be shared or sold, and only school and classroom leaders will have access to your contact information.

Visit bit.ly/lsptajoin to join online. If you prefer to join by making a payment of cash or check, look out for the PTA membership forms that will be arriving in your child’s folder. Get involved and support our community by joining today!

Leopard Buck Store:
Amazon Wish List

We are in need of new items for the Leopard Buck store for the new school year! As some of you know, Leopard Bucks are given to students when they are showing any of the three "B"s of Lakeshore (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible). Students can then spend their Leopard Bucks at our Leopard Buck store. We are in need of new items for the upcoming school year.

Please take a look at our Amazon wishlist https://amzn.to/2BrrFWw and donate if you can! We are also happy to take donations of other child/school friendly items you may have at home, just check in with Ms. Sadja in the office!
$100,000 Questionniare
We can get up to $100,000 if EVERYONE fills out their free lunch questionnaire by the due date. View it here https://schoolcafe.com/

We did it for the last three years and we can do it again! Funds go toward much needed supplemental services such as staff support and literacy intervention.

Click “Apply for Benefits” and fill in even if your family doesn’t qualify and even if your child won’t be eating school lunch. We simply need the total headcount to qualify for the grant. This is very important!

Join the Annual Giving Campaign Team
The Annual Giving Campaign is our biggest and most successful fundraiser to date! It's a month-long ask campaign from Wed. 9/12 through Tue. 10/9 with prizes for classrooms with highest participation and highest amounts raised. We had a terrific first year last year and are looking to repeat our success. The more money we raise, the more programs we can explore for our students, the more supplemental funds we can offer to our teachers, and the more competitive our pay will be for our enrichment instructors.

Please help us make this a ONE AND DONE fundraising effort for the school year by helping out.
  • Promote/collect donations once a week at drop-off or pickup
  • Record donations for 30-60 minutes before school on a Tuesday or after school on a Friday
  • Join the Steering Committee to help review materials and make decisions
If you're interested, sign up for a slot at bit.ly/ls18agcsignup or contact volunteer@LakeshoreElementary.org.
Seeking a Head Sorcerer for Spooky Fun

Calling all ghouls and goblins! On October 30-31, the Community Room transforms into a haunted house for a day. Classes visit the Community Room in 15-minute shifts from 11-2:30 for games and face painting.

We urgently need a Head Sorcerer or two co-Sorcerers to lead setup on October 30 and to oversee the event and cleanup on October 31. Our previous Head Sorcerer's child graduated last year, and while many volunteers have already signed up to help, we do need a new soul or two to lead this event. Unfortunately, without a Head Sorcerer, we won't be able to resurrect the haunted house this year. If you're interested, please contact volunteer@LakeshoreElementary.org.

Attendance Procedure
For day-to-day absences, please call the main office (415-759- 2825) or email Ms. Classy martinc@sfusd.edu. If you anticipate an extended absence, see Ms. Classy in person (room 19), by email, or via note addressed to Ms. Classy. Note: Informing the office/Ms. Classy is the only way that your child’s absence will be noted officially. Informing your child’s teacher is not required.

Absences can only be excused for illness, religious holidays, funeral, family emergencies or appointments. For more information, please reference SFUSD student handbook (pg 34-37). Students arriving after 9:40 must get a tardy slip from Ms. Classy.

Parking and Drop-Off Tips
Street parking is available in the neighborhood, but leave 10-15 minutes extra in the morning as neighborhood streets get congested. Please do not park in the white zone in front of the school at the beginning and end of the day as that area is reserved for buses.

If you will be at school for more than a few hours, check posted signs since many streets have 2-hr parking restrictions. There are often spots on Gellert and Eucalyptus west of Middlefield without 2-hour restrictions.

We have a drop-off zone on Eucalyptus at Middlefield where upper-grade students escort children from your car to the yard between 9:15 and 9:30. If your child’s car seat is on the driver’s side and your child cannot climb over obstacles to get to the curb-side door (such as a sibling’s car seat), please wave visibly to the student volunteer to help open the driver’s side door. DO NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR as this impedes the flow of traffic. Drop-off zone may be most suitable for students in grades 1-5 who are more familiar with the school.
