Your voice matters... time to email the City!

Thanks to your support, we had a great Development Review Board hearing at the City of Scottsdale last week. Our supporters, neighbors and parishioners filled the City Hall
kiva and spoke eloquently about the positive impact that the St. Patrick Catholic Community has on our greater community. More than 1,200 cards, emails and letters poured in from you, our supporters!

Special thanks to Councilwoman Linda Milhaven who was a vocal supporter of our application and kept the Board focused on the issues at hand, the design of the new activity center and the landscaping plans in the updated masterplan. We appreciate her leadership! We won the unanimous approval
of the Board; however, now there’s a short window where
there can be an appeal process to the City Council.

One councilmember, Kathy Littlefield, is trying to bring this case to the City Council for reconsideration. She and her husband, Bob Littlefield, have been actively opposed to these updates to St. Patrick campus.

We hope to earn the support of other Councilmembers and demonstrate that the Board’s review and approval will be affirmed without another hearing.

Would you be willing to take one more step to share your feedback again? We will be sending your comment cards
to the Council. Additionally, whether you made a comment card or not, it would be great if you would please send a short email of support to the whole Council at citycouncil@scottsdaleaz.gov and copy beyondsunday@stpatcc.org. This email can echo what you already put on the comment cards.

Please remember to vote in the upcoming elections in August and November. More than ever you can see how important your input is into the civic process. You may have already received your ballot in the mail or you can vote now in person at City Hall or on election day at your polling place in August. Be sure to vote in the Scottsdale City Council election in November too!

Thank you again for your continued support. Please keep us and this project in your prayers!

MINISTRY LEADER & PARISH LEADERSHIP RETREAT - All ministry leaders, stewardship council, finance council and staff members are asked to attend. If you are unable to make it, please send someone else from your ministry. We want every ministry represented at this wonderful day retreat. Catholic speaker, composer and musician, Chris Muglia, will lead the retreat day. Chris is a gifted communicator, producer, certified life coach and a talented musician/songwriter whose mission is to help others discover their potential and realize their true greatness. Audiences call his presentations “thought provoking, honest and transparent with a message that inspires people to live in heroic ways.” As a musician with songs published worldwide in multiple languages, a successful business man, a husband of 24 years and a father of five children, Chris brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his presentations. Chris and his wife Sheila reside in Phoenix, Arizona. Chris composed “Our God is Here,” "Do this in Memory of Me," and other songs we often use at liturgy.

THE TODDLER ROOM FOR CHILD CARE DURING MASS - The toddler room will be open for child care at the 8:00 am and 10:30 am Masses only during the summer. It will re-open for all Masses starting the weekend of September 8/9! All little ones age 1 (and walking) & up through age 3 (until 4th birthday) are welcome to come join us in the nursery during Mass. In order to have enough ministers to supervise the Toddler Room, we ask that parents of children registered for our Toddler Room also sign-up to serve as a Childcare Minister once a month. For questions or more details, please contact Megan Popa, 480-998-3843 x138. Thank you!

One of the easiest ways to dive into your faith is to join or participate in our ministries. We have well over 100 ministries to help you know, love, and serve God more! This week, we are highlighting our Infant Baptism Ministry... This is quite literally, the first "dive" into faith!

Baptism is the one sacrament that all Christian denominations share in common. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that, "Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons [and daughters] of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission. Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."

Is it time to start preparing for your child's Baptism? You do not have to wait until your child is born to begin preparations for this special Sacrament. Follow the steps below to get started:
  1. Become a registered Parishioner, if you are not already. Contact Mary Sanicola at the Parish Office at 480-998-3843 x126 or msanicola@stpatcc.org for more information on this step. You can also click here to begin this process online.
  2. Attend a Baptism Preparation Class. Baptism Classes take place every second Saturday of the month from 9:00 am-12:00 pm in the church building. This is a class to explain Church teachings and traditions, meet other parents going through the process and to discuss the actual procedures of the Baptism. There is no need to pre-register.
  3. Attend a Parish Orientation. Parish Orientation is a very welcoming and informative evening where we briefly discuss our Vision, Mission Statement, explain our 5 Pillars (Liturgy, Formation, Hospitality, Social Justice and Stewardship), and give parishioners an opportunity to take a look at our ministries and see where they best fit in. They are held once a month from 6:30 - 8:15 pm at the Parish office. Contact Brian Cannon at 480-998-3843 x104 or bcannon@stpatcc.org for more information.
  4. Schedule your Baptism. Baptisms take place during Mass on the second weekend of each month. They alternate between the evening and morning masses.
Call Megan Popa at 480-998-3843 x138 for more information on any step in this process and to reserve a date.

Have you participated in our survey yet?

As we take our next steps in moving forward with the project we seek your feedback. After a season of prayerful discernment, the Campaign Cabinet, Finance Council and Stewardship Council have recommended a Feasibility Study to determine if St. Patrick Catholic Community is ready to continue with re-engaging the capital campaign. The diocesan-wide campaign, “Together Let Us Go Forth,” in which our participation has been requested to begin this fall, factors into our discernment. As we begin this process, your input is greatly valued.

Please take a few moments to complete a CONFIDENTIAL and ANONYMOUS church-wide survey.

By participating in the survey you will have an opportunity to help shape our plans for the future. The results of the study will be compiled and presented to the parish in a newsletter. These results, along with input from the Campaign Cabinet, Finance Council and Stewardship Council, will assist the Parish in moving forward.

Please read the case statement that proceeds the survey and spend time in prayer to discern the direction God is leading us as a parish. Please fill out an online survey (click here) as soon as possible, but no later than August 29. You will also find links to the survey directly on the home page of our website. We invite both spouses to participate individually.

Thank you for your past and present support of St. Patrick and thank you in advance for your feedback and suggestions. We look forward to what God has ahead for us in our ministry together.
