iGEM recently welcomed a team of Ambassadors made up of 11 passionate After iGEMers spanning 6 continents. Our goal is to promote After iGEM initiatives in all regions. Keep scrolling to learn what the ambassadors have been working on this month.
In July and August, the ambassadors have been cooking up some exciting new projects. From tracking down interviews with iGEM alumni for the iGEM digest, developing and monitoring the mentorship program, working to gather materials for the new educational hub to planning after iGEM events all over the world.

From Lab to Runway with Stella McCarney
Jim Ajioka, iGEM '09, along with Colorfix co-founders, David Nugent and Orr Yarkoni have taken their pigment generating clones from the lab of their 2009 iGEM Cambridge Team to the Stella McCartney runway to the fashion exhibit at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Congratulations to this accomplished After iGEMer and his partners!

Brazilian Synbio Hackathon
The Brazilian After iGEM Community, in partnership with LiNA Biotec, hosted the Biohack, a remarkable event that guided newcomers in the field from brainstorming to a business plan.

NATIONAL CONGRESS OF SCIENCES
The first ever After iGEM event will be held in Shenzhen, China on August 25, organized by iGEM Asian ambassador Chen Hong with the help of Bluepha. Previous and current participants are invited to attend as well as anyone interested in hearing more about the iGEM foundation.

SEPTEMBER 27-28, 2018
The GASB II Conference will take place in the prestigious Harnack-Haus in Berlin on September 27 and 28. The conference will highlight hot topics related to Synthetic Biology.

Franken food fight
In a laboratory in Minneapolis, a tiny company called Calyxt is developing a soybean plant that will produce a healthier oil. Calyxt a company that has never turned a profit is poised to beat the world’s biggest agriculture firms. Their soybean is set to be the first gene edited crop. Such advances in gene-editing could double the $15 billion global biotechnology seed market within a decade.

DELEGATE PROGRAM: UN CONVENTION ON BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY

Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt will host the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. If you are interested in synthetic biology and international policy this is an opportunity to join iGEM in a critical global conversation about genetic resources and risk assessment. Art’s Work in the Age of Biotechnology: Shaping Our Genetic Futures will be an art-science exhibit and symposium of artists, scientists, and humanities scholars, led by the NCSU Libraries and the Genetic Engineering and Society Center, held at the Gregg Museum of Art & Design, the physical and digital display spaces of the NCSU Libraries and the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA).
They are looking for contemporary work and project proposals that will engage viewers in examining how genomic sciences could shape the future of our society. The deadline for submission is October 1, 2018 11:59pm EST.
