Welcome to our 2018 autumn newsletter! 

This summer has seen so many amazing trail running adventures and events, we hope you enjoyed them too and made the most of the incredible weather. We're excited about this Autumn's Run the Wild trips which will keep you inspired and out on those trails!

An Introduction to trail running... Do More Movement

Trail running is probably one of the most liberating sports out there. The total freedom of stepping off the pavement onto countryside footpaths is an experience that everyone should try at least once. I grew up running trails as a child. Living in the remote areas of South Wales with no public transport or even street lights in our village, running on trails was part of my everyday life, just a quick way to catch up with my friends at the beach or getting home in time for dinner.

Roads and pavements in towns are getting busier as more people live and work in urban areas, particularly London. This combined with the increased popularity of running and cycling to and from work makes for busy pavements. If you are tired of running the same old route or losing your mojo to pound the streets, perhaps it’s time to have a look at trail running to escape the crowds and get back to the true freedom running provides.

How to incorporate running poles into your trail running 

Trail running poles work... the why and how

Following on from my article about techniques for running uphill, I mentioned the use of running poles was a serious consideration when looking at improving your technique on running up hills. In this article I’ll take a quick look at what the benefits and effects of using running poles are and what techniques there are to use them.

Trail running poles remain a contentious issue in the world of running and that’s partly because of their history, and also perhaps due to the lack of our understanding of their impact in scientific terms. Not much else divides opinion in the sphere of running as much as running poles, other than maybe barefoot running! So, let’s get stuck into the world of sticks…

Epic foraged trail running food 

Stay warm this Autumn

Learning about wild edible plants often features on our guided trail running adventures, from salad leaves, to fungi and fruit, there is always something edible whatever the time of year. It makes a trail running journey much more interesting and re-connects us to the wild.

In a nod to the British Bake Off and also this amazing Autumnal free food, we thought we would share with you our favourite use for this fruity beauty. Check out the recipe for making an epic trail running food - blackberry crumble. Recipe found here
