Weekly Meeting

Please join us for our next weekly gathering, taking place this Sunday, August 19th, for meditation and dharma sharing, 6:30pm at Unitarian Place (Kingston Unitarian Fellowship), 206 Concession Street. Anne Coward will be bell minding.
The Miracle of the Present Moment

"Our true home is in the present moment. To live in the present moment is a miracle. The miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green Earth in the present moment, to appreciate the peace and beauty that are available now. Peace is all around us -- in the world and in nature -- and within us -- in our bodies and our spirits. Once we learn to touch this peace, we will be healed and transformed. It is not a matter of faith; it is a matter of practice. We need only to find ways to bring our body and mind back to the present moment so we can touch what is refreshing, healing, and wondrous."

Summer Day of Mindfulness

We've had a wonderful response with registration for our upcoming Day of Mindfulness on Saturday, August 25th at Bonniespring farm in rural Kingston. Space is limited, so we need to close the registration soon. If you want to attend but haven't registered, please register now. There are several drivers who have indicated willingness to car pool, if you need a ride they are still available.
The day's program from 10am-3pm will be led by Sarah Martin & Hang Nhan of Kingston Sangha. Qi Gong enthusiast and sangha member Ananda Sattler will lead Mindful Movement. The day's program will be followed by an optional Forest Therapy Walk through the woods led by sangha member Stana Luxford-Oddie from 3:15-5pm. Participants are asked to bring a vegan dish to share for pot luck lunch. Car pool being organized at 9:15 am from Unitarian Place at 206 Concession Street. Follow this link for registration and more information. We hope to enjoy a beautiful day with you!
Healing Love

"Maitri can be translated as “love” or “lovingkindness.” Some Buddhist teachers prefer “lovingkindness,” as they find the word “love” too dangerous. But I prefer the word “love.” Words sometimes get sick and we have to heal them. We have been using the word “love” to mean appetite or desire, as in “I love hamburgers.” We have to use language more carefully. “Love” is a beautiful word; we have to restore its meaning. The word “maitri” has roots in the word mitra which means friend. In Buddhism, the primary meaning of love is friendship. We all have the seeds of love in us. We can develop this wonderful source of energy, nurturing the unconditional love that does not expect anything in return. When we understand someone deeply, even someone who has done us harm, we cannot resist loving him or her. Shakyamuni Buddha declared that the Buddha of the next eon will be named “Maitreya, the Buddha of Love.”

Our sangha has two teams helping to share leadership and facilitation of our meetings. Our Bell Minders Team are mindful facilitators for our weekly gatherings, as well as retreats, taking beautiful care of our friends in the practice including the bell. Our Sangha Care Team facilitates sangha care meetings, plans retreats, minds our library and resources, and coordinates outreach. If you are interested in helping with either or both, contact interbeingkingston@gmail.com for more information.
