A Note from the President

September, 2018

Now is the time to finish the outdoor season strong, and take some tinkering time to experiment with new ideas, equipment, or training before indoor kicks in.

August was a month of huge tournaments.  Adult USAA Nationals and the Lausanne 2018 World Masters Championships both featured ITAA archers.  In September, ITAA archers also competed at the Para World Ranking Event.

Closer to home, the ITAA JOAD Outdoor and All-Ages Outdoor state championship events were last month.  The JOAD Outdoor this year featured an afternoon elimination bracket culminating in category finals shot World Cup style from a raised stage, with bleachers full of cheering supporters and running commentary from our Mr. Archery Demetrio Mascarenas!  The All-Ages event featured our largest shooting line ever, pushing through the heat, sun, and locomotives for a great event.

Congratulations to all of the volunteers, archers, coaches, and supporters who made both events a big success.  As always, please email me or any of the board with your thoughts, comments, and feedback.  That's the only way we keep improving.

In the Outdoor state championship events, several of our archers received special awards for extraordinary results:
  • Barb Schuessler - Bronze Olympian Pin
  • Charlie Bolton earned his USA Archery Silver Olympian Pin.
  • Cady Kokotovich from Mid America JOAD took Missouri Top Junior Female Compound Archer for 2018 from her combined success at the Missouri Outdoor and Indoor State Championship events.
At the Iowa JOAD state championship, every single Illinois archer who participated won a podium spot!  Great job in spreading the Illinois out to other states!

Here are some upcoming highlight events:

On Sept 22nd, WRC is hosting the inaugural Midwest Barebow/Trad Target Championships -- a variety of challenging formats all day long, crowning the champions as the most versatile sightless archers.

On Sept 29th, the Cross River Challenge pits JOAD archers from Illinois against JOAD archers from Missouri.

USA Archery has posted their schedule for the 2019 National Events.  There are some big changes, so make sure you check them early.

As we fly into the future, "shoot 'em straight."

2018 Midwest Barebow / Traditional Target Championship

On September 22nd, The Wheaton Rifle Club is hosting this inaugural all-sightless mixed-format day-long archery tournament.

This four-part tournament comprises a 30 arrow International Round, a 36 arrow World Archery Round, a Paper Animal Target Round, and a last-arrow-flying elimination round.

More details and sign-up info is over here.

Cross River Challenge

On September 29th, Mid-America JOAD is throwing down the gauntlet to see which state's JOAD archers can bring the excellence.  So finish your outdoor season strong and represent your state!

This is a one-day 720 JOAD Round at Town Hall Archery in Belleville.
