Welcome!

Welcome everyone to the REPLICATE project's e-bulletin!

In this e-bulletin you will find a lot of interesting information; we will explain how we have started delivering the Smart Streets and Smart Homes parts of the REPLICATE project with updates on the work that has been done. Plus, you will learn more about the opportunities we are generating for the Ashely, Easton and Lawrence Hill areas of Bristol.

Hope you enjoy it and please don't forget to check our website and news & events section to be fully up to date.

Future charging points

The REPLICATE project has introduced the first three electric road side, or ‘on-street’ car charging points within the Ashley, Easton and Lawrence Hill area. These have been located in Brunswick Square, Counterslip and Stuart Street but there are more road side and off-street (e.g. car park) charging points being installed over the coming months.

The installed charging points are only available for charging electric cars provided by Co-wheels Car Club – the three charging points will be available in the near future for residents/citizens/Bristolians who have joined Co-wheels Car Club.

Smart Homes are arriving to Bristol

The first Smart Homes appliances have been installed in Bristol households as part of the REPLICATE project. These Smart Homes appliances aim to improve the day-to-day lives of citizens, by reducing the amount of energy consumed and so reducing both to tackle high energy bills and the environmental impact.

This will be achieved by a range of different methods such as the installation of brand new smart appliances (e.g. washing machines, dish washers and tumble dryers) which will have the ability to be controlled remotely with the potential to participate in a reward based tariff system – where we will simulate different energy costs at different times of the day to encourage citizens to use their appliances at out of peak times.

If you live in Ashley, Easton or Lawrence Hill and want to take part in the REPLICATE Smart Homes project, please register your interest here:

Engage with the Mobile Show Home

The Mobile Show Home, a Smart Home mobile engagement tool – led by Knowle West Media Centre, has been created to engage with Bristol citizens and share the potential benefits of the REPLICATE project.

The Mobile Show home has different activities that will help to demonstrate the characteristics of a Smart Home. A range of engaging games show participants how to save energy by getting the most out of their home’s infrastructure and the electronic devises within it. Solar panels generate the necessary power to light up these games and show how much energy is being gathered in real time.

The Mobile Show Home will pop up at several events and community gathering spots in the city – keep your eyes peeled for it and come along to learn about how you can be more energy efficient!

Opportunity for emerging artists!

Knowle West Media Centre is recruiting camera operators and animators to create videos about the REPLICATE project taking place in the Ashley, Easton and Lawrence Hill areas of Bristol.

Successful candidates will receive training and mentoring from Eight, KWMC’s creative agency to develop their filmmaking skills.

If you live in any of those areas of Bristol or know someone who does, please share this opportunity. Full details of how to apply are available at https://kwmc.org.uk/filmtraineeopportunity/

Volunteers needed for the Create Ecohome!

The Create Ecohome is a show home demonstrating sustainable and efficient ways of living, it is located just outside  the Create Centre. It displays a range of different methods to save energy and money – from smart white goods to solar panels.

Volunteers are needed for the refurbishment of the Create Ecohome to make it a more welcoming and innovative space. Some of the tasks that we need help with include gardening, painting, creative and artistic work to design the information boards -no matter what you are good at, there is plenty to do for everyone!
