The pioneers of Rehearsing Change, spring 2015

The Impact of Rehearsing Change

Our semester-long study abroad program, Rehearsing Change is the only program in the world that practices a fair trade/decolonial education model. “Fair Trade” refers to equality, meaning it provides equal educational benefits for local community participants. “Decolonial” refers to equity, meaning that we recognize and integrate diverse ways of knowing and being from our partner communities. Funds are redistributed and result in real community projects.

In today’s newsletter we ask you to reflect on how this experience impacts local participants and international students. Watch a video to get a sense of how we create knowledge and experience the world; then read testimonials to reflect on those experiences. Finally, play your role in this “rehearsal for change” by sharing with others. The early application deadline for our spring 2019 semester is Sept 15!

Watch the Rehearsing Change video!!!

In this video see how internationals and locals work together, dream together and play together. This is all part of a new model of studying… it is how we Rehearse Change.

Students, faculty and staff, please share on your Facebook pages, as well as in other social media, or take a couple of minutes to play it in your classes. Remember the impacts produced in Pachaysana start by Rehearsing Change! We depend on our friends to help us attract great students to our programs.

The most liberating educational experience

From an international student

“This was the most liberating educational experience I have had in my 21 years of learning. Although considered "higher education", I felt I held agency as a student and thinker and felt space and encouragement to grow and share in fullness.”

Bronte Velez
Alum, Graduate of Brandeis University

Rehearsing Change leads to "jungle is my pharmacy" project
From a community participant.

"We shared experiences, work and knowledge while working in a team, traveling to many places and exchanging opinions with all. I am able to support my community with the knowledge I gained.”

Andrés Alvarado,
Alum, Kichwa community of Tzawata

Arts-based methodologies and rigorous academics
From a Study Abroad Office Director

"The Rehearsing Change program in Ecuador is truly like no other.  In its creative use of arts-based methodologies within a rigorous academic structure and based in an immersive living environment with local communities, students are challenged in new ways to use their education to 'be the change they want to see in the world'."

Executive Director

what education can be
Apply for Rehearsing Change spring 2019!

"One of the best things that ever happened to me. It's changed my entire perception and imagination of what education can be… the classes, excursions, and people, but most of all because of the model of education (that focuses on true learning, exploration, and dialogue instead of memorization / regurgitation), it helped me grow as an activist and as a person."

Alum, Graduate from Wesleyan University
