  • Throughout the year, look here for shout outs and appreciations for our community members!  Or even better, send a shout out of your own to be published in the weekly newsletter.  Submit your shout out by emailing it to Kelly McGuire - kmcguire@lmc896.org

  • A shout out to the 37, 6th grade parents who responded to the last newsletter and have now shared a short introductory letter about their child.  We appreciate these letters so much, so please keep em coming.  Instructions below.
  • A shout out to LMC teacher, Grace Lee who shared these fun photos from this year's LMC Staff cooking event.
This Week at LMC
  • Last week we cooked and then worked to set up our classrooms!

Dear 2018-2019 LMC Families,

This Wednesday, the first day of school, all students will enter the building at the 81 New Street entrance.  This is the back side entrance of the 26 Broadway building.  Beginning at 7:30am, all students may enter and report to the 7th floor cafeteria where breakfast will be served and students will await pickup by their homeroom teachers.  All students should be in the cafeteria by 8:10am. Here are a few other details regarding Wednesday's arrival and dismissal:
  • Parents / family members will not be permitted to come upstairs to drop off their child.  Drop off and goodbyes must take place on the street level.
  • 6th grade parents and those new to LMC are invited to a short orientation / meet and greet meeting at 8:30am on the 7th floor.  This meeting will conclude by 9:15am.
  • Dismissal is at 2:32pm on Wednesday at the 81 New Street door.  There are no after school programs this Wednesday.
  • Students do not need their student ID for morning arrival until the 3rd week of school.
  • Students at all grade levels will participate in several days of orientation classes during which we take students on a tour of the school and introduce them to the various adults they will meet during the school day.  Students will also learn LMC policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Out lunch begins for 7th and 8th graders on Thursday for all students who return their Out Lunch Permission Form signed by their parent.  6th graders will be introduced to out lunch later this fall.
  • All middle schoolers in New York City are eligible to eat for free in the school cafeteria

We appreciate your patience and calm as we work students into the routine of the new school year.  There may be a few bumps during arrival for the first day or two, but we will soon fall into a rhythm.  We are excited for the year and we will work to make sure that the transition back to school is comfortable and supportive for all LMC students.

Best,
Kelly McGuire

A final note:  Over the summer the ownership of our building finalized a lease of the 12th floor of our building to the New York City Charter School of the Arts.  This middle school will serve grades 6-8 through a curriculum centered around the arts.  As a part of their lease the building is renovating the elevators at 79 New Street.  In January the renovation will be completed and NYC Charter School of the Arts will no longer use the elevators at 81 New Street.  To ease stress on arrival, NYC Charter will begin their school day at 9am and end at 4:30pm.  We will not be sharing any spaces with this school, including classrooms, gym, library, etc. I have met with NYC Charter School of the Arts principal, Jamie Davidson, and we have worked out systems to ensure a safe, organized arrival and school day for all students.
