First PTO Meeting is Monday, September 17 from 7 - 8:30 pm in the Media Room. Please note, the meeting date has changed. Join us along with a panel of expert 8th Grade students who will share their experiences and answer any questions you may have about Julian. The agenda includes updates from Dr. Fitzgerald and the PTO Board Members, information about the Village's traffic plan in the school's vicinity, and a vote to approve our budget. Take a look at our Welcome Letter which lists accomplishments, PTO meeting dates, PTO board members and currently open positions on the board.  Questions/concerns, contact the PTO at PTOJulian@gmail.com.

Students, Join the French & Spanish Club in a School-Wide Scavenger Hunt!  Be part of the fun and meet in room B-308 on Tuesday, September 11 from 3:30-5 pm.  Questions may be directed to Ms. Bultas or Ms. Kelly.
Jazz Ensemble Auditions are Tuesday, September 11.  Students should have an audition time.  If not, contact Mr. Kanwischer.  Please see schedule below for rehearsal dates and more for all Julian band groups:

Jazz Ensemble: 7th and 8th grades: Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Bass, Guitar, Piano and Drummers only. Must be in a curricular music group.                           
Auditions: Sept. 11 (students should have a scheduled time).
First Rehearsal: Sept. 18 at 8 am in room D-104.
 
Julian Jives: Open to all 7th and 8th grade instrumentalists who are enrolled in a curricular music class. No Audition.
First Rehearsal: Sept. 20 at 8 am in room D-104.
 
6th Grade Jazz Band: Open to all 6th grade instrumentalists who are enrolled in a curricular music class. No Audition.
First Rehearsal: Sept. 21 at 8 am in room D-104.
 
Rock Band: Open to all instrumentalists regardless of arts class. One year of experience on an instrument is required, unless student is a vocalist.
First Meeting: Sept. 27 from 3:30-4:30 pm in room D-104.

Rainbow Tribe's First Meeting is This Wednesday, Sept. 12 in Mr. Kannan's room B-404 from 3:30-4:30 pm.  Rainbow Tribe is Julian's first LGBTQ+ club for everyone! Created by students for students, the goal of the club is to make our school a safer, and more comfortable environment for everyone.  Please contact Mr. Kannan with questions/concerns.
The Chess/Gaming Club has Begun!  Students, do you enjoy playing Chess or any board games? Do you enjoy playing card games such as Magic the Gathering, You-gi-O, or Pokemon? Perhaps you appreciate an intense game of dungeons and Dragons? If you answered YES to any of the following questions, then the gaming Club is definitely for you! Drop by Mr. Vincenti's room C-302 on Wednesday's from 3:30-4:30 pm.  Questions, please email Mr. Vincenti.
OPEF VEX Robotics Competitive League Informational Meetings This Week! Students, join Mr. Walsh to learn more about the Vex Robotics Competitive League by attending one of the informational meetings on Wednesday, Sept. 12 or Thursday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 pm in room D-202.  Please visit this website for additional information. Don't Miss This Fun Event:  OPRF Marching Huskies 8th Grade Night is on Friday, Sept. 14.  Students will get to perform at the pregame show and also from the stands during the first half of the game.  Future Marching Huskies and Color Guard participants are encouraged to attend.  Show up after school and practice with the band.  Dinner of pizza, apples, carrots and cookies will be provided. The Sign Up/Permission Slip is required to attend.  For more information about this event, please open this flyer.

The Jayhawk Journal's First Weekly Meeting is Thursday, Sept.13 from 3:30-5 pm in Room C-405. Students with interest in writing, photography, or graphic design are welcome to join this club.  Please stop by room C-405 and let Mr. Kadlec know by Thursday if interested.
In Case You Missed It, The PTO Friday Lunch Calendar is Available.  Domino's Pizza will be served Friday, September 14.  Sign up here if you would like to volunteer by handing out Pizza/Subs; it works out to be 3 or 4 times a school year.  And, if you would like to be put on a substitute list, please email Bobbie Eastman. 
The Art Club's First Session is Thursday, Sept. 13 From 3:30-4:30 pm in Rooms D-301 and D-304. Art Club offers members a wide variety of opportunities to work on student led projects in a social atmosphere. Students will participate in fine, applied, and multi-media based art activities. And, may have the opportunity to showcase their projects within the local community.  Questions may be directed to Mr. Swistowicz. 
The First Service Learning Club Meeting Will Be Held on Tuesday, September 18 from 8:15-8:45 am in Room C-208. Service Learning provides a curriculum and activities to foster community service and to encourage students to volunteer services to the community. Students work for such causes as food pantries, PADS shelters, adopt-a-family, Hines veterans, Ronald MacDonald House, and Kids March for Homeless Kids. All students are welcome. Dylan Thuras, author of The Atlas Obscura Explorer's Guide for the World's Most Adventurous Kid as well as the original Atlas Obscura is coming to Julian!  This event will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 19 during 9th period for the entire 6th grade. Check out this website as it is an awe-inspiring place to explore.  Anyone can order a copy of the Kid version of Atlas Obscura. Hardcover copies are $19.95. We have an advance reading copy in the library for students previewing pleasure. Orders can be placed in the Library. Students will receive a copy of the order form from their team very soon. 

Save the Date for the First Dine Around Town on Wednesday, October 24 from 5-8 pm. Drop by Portillo's located at 7740 Roosevelt Road in Forest Park and present this flyer  to the first Portillo's staff that takes your order.  Twenty percent of proceeds will go to the Julian PTO, in turn supporting our students, staff and teachers.  Thanks for your support!
Keep Collecting Box Tops!  They help support our students, teachers and staff at Julian.  A drop off box can be found in the main office.  Thank you!

Community Information
The Next District 97 Board of Education Meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 pm in the boardroom of the administration building at 260 Madison Street.  Agenda and packet of materials will be available soon.
IMAGINE OPRF Presentation to the Board: Long Term Facilities Master Plan Potential Concept, Costs & Phasing is Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 pm.  Location is: 201 N. Scoville Avenue.

PING!  Providing Instruments for the Next Generation. We loan band and orchestra instruments to families in need so their students can participate at the Oak Park and River Forest Public Schools.  See upcoming meetings and website.
 Code Play Learn with Instructor, Paul Wright, will offer Exam Prep classes for the High School Entrance Exam for Chicagoland Catholic Schools on 12/1/18, starting in October 2018. Please see website for details.

The 2018 Frank Lloyd Wright Race Registration held on Sunday, October 21 is Open.  Races feature a 5K Run/Walk, the 10K Run, and the Youth Mile for ages 7-14.
One Earth Film Festival has announced it's Young Filmmakers Contest.  Students may submit a 3 to 8 minute film about one of 6 sustainability topics: energy, food, transportation, waste, water, or open space/ecosystems. They should present a problem with their topic and then a solution. Please see this website to learn more and to view a short film about the contest.  Deadline is January 13, 2019.
