Sr. Joana Figueiredo from Portugal spent 3 weeks with us, observing how we deliver Palliative Care to our community from Wilderness to Harkerville. She thoroughly enjoyed her time with us and expressed her appreciation to our staff and patients at her farewell tea.
Sr. Joana said that despite being apprehensive about being accepted by the patients and families into their homes, everyone was so warm and welcoming towards her. She also said she has fond memories of her experience of observing quality Palliative Care in the home. She witnessed abject poverty in some patients homes but found it heartwarming to see that despite their living conditions they were so appreciative of the care they receive.
This experience has reminded her of how blessed she is. She commented on the passion showed by our staff towards their patients and was impressed by the training, qualifications and professionalism of our staff and organisation.
We wish her well as she continues her studies to obtain her Masters degree in Portugal and thank her for rolling her sleeves up to help with the clinical day to day running of our organisation, as well as her warm engagement with the patients.

The Rotary Club of Knysna are very aware of the need of medical equipment for our registered patients. Dr and Mrs Husskison kindly organised the collection of some donated equipment. Thank you to the Rotarians for remembering us and our patients!

The Rotary Club of Knysna, Lor Scanlon and the staff of Knysna Sedgefield Hospice worked together on the revamp of our reception. The focus was on having a welcoming and professional feel, as well as being a place to gather information on Knysna Sedgefield Hospice. We feel confident that we have achieved this and we hope that all our visitors will agree! Pop in and come and see what we've done and meet our friendly staff. A beautiful portrait of the late Peggy Grinaker that is on display in our recently renovated reception area was 'revealed' to her children and their spouses. Featured in the photo above is Richard Laubscher, Ola Grinaker, Karin Goss, Lisbet Laubscher, Elaine Grinaker and Pat Goss. This was a wonderful opportunity to express our appreciation for the gift that their late mother gave us... our offices, B.O.N.D House in Wilson str, Knysna!
B.O.N.D House was donated by Peggy Grinaker to Knysna Sedgefield Hospice after we cared for her husband, Ola. Four members of her family died of cancer: Bella her grandmother, Ola her husband, Nell her mother and Doug her cousin. It came to her one night that the initials of these loved ones could make up the name of the Hospice house. Being a BOND of people working together to help those in need.
