Hi <<My First Name is>>

Ever heard the expression "fake it till you make it?" Some people take this to mean that if you're unhappy, you should simply fake being happy... and you will be.

In this newsletter a professor of neuroscience and psychology explains why this is wrong and why you should not fake being happy at work. Here are the headlines:
  • Professor: This is why you should never fake being happy at work
  • Over 2,000 people have taken our international study on happiness at work - last chance to take it is this week
  • We're making a list of happy workplaces. Know any? Tell us here
  • Join the Chief Happiness Officer Academy in San Diego or Copenhagen
  • Fantastic story: Southwest flight attendant makes a dream come true

Professor: This is why you should never fake being happy at work

Forget about trying to be happy all the time - or faking being happy when you're not. It just requires extra effort and is counter productive.

Emiliana Simon-Thomas, Ph.D., is the science director of the Greater Good Science Center at Berkeley and a leading expert on the neuroscience and psychology of compassion, kindness, gratitude, and other “pro-social” skills.

In this short video (90 seconds) she explains why you should never fake happiness.

Over 2,000 people have taken our survey on happiness at work - YOUR last chance to take it is this week

Over 2,000 people have already taken our International Survey on Happiness At Work and we’re starting to see some fascinating results already.

The final report showing which countries are happier at work and what makes them happy will be ready in time for the International Week of Happiness At Work which runs from September 24-28.

This means that the deadline for taking the survey is September 10, so we have time to crunch the numbers.

So if you haven’t taken the survey already, please go here and do it – it only takes 4 minutes and you may even learn something about what makes you happy at work.

And please share the survey with others – the more replies we get, the more relevant the results will be.

Take the survey in English right here.
You can also take it in Dutchin Italian, in Spanish or in Japanese if you prefer.

We're making a list of happy workplaces. Know any?

We are compiling a database of exceptionally happy workplaces around the world.

Who do you think we should include? It can be any kind of workplace – big or small, government or private sector – as long as they are genuinely happy.

Tell us here if you know a workplace that belongs on the list.

Fantastic story: Southwest flight attendant makes a dream come true

Wow. Just wow.

Tracy Sharp, a woman with Down’s syndrome, was talking to Vicki Heath, a Southwest Airlines flight attendant, on a flight she was taking and shared that her dream was to be a flight attendant herself.

Vicki then did just about the coolest thing ever: She arranged for Tracy to join her on one of her flights as an assistant flight attendant. In the video above you can see just how awesome that went.
