Survey: Older People's Views on Later Life

Age UK Wiltshire is surveying older people in Swindon and Wiltshire to gain a better understanding about people's experiences in later life. They are looking for as many people as possible to complete the survey so would be very grateful if you could either complete this short survey yourself (over 50s only) or forward on to any clients you work with who may be happy to do so.

The survey has been designed in partnership with Healthwatch Swindon. Anyone completing it will remain anonymous, unless you would like Age UK Wiltshire to contact you, in which case they have provided a section at the end of the survey for you to leave your contact details.

Charity Sector Research Survey

There is a lack of research at MBA level carried out specifically for the charitable sector. With charity reputation very much a topical subject, a researcher from Henley Business School, University of Reading, is aiming to find links between charity leadership and employees' perceptions of their charity's reputation, which in turn leads to positive behaviours.

A research survey has been created and the demographic being targeted is employees of UK charities (any type or size of charity). The survey is designed to be completely anonymous regarding the individual respondent and the charity. Please fill out the survey if you work for a charity and are able!

Consultation on Draft Development

Swindon Borough Council is seeking views on a draft Development Brief for residential development on land adjacent to the proposed new £3m sports hub at Moredon Recreation Ground. The sports hub would include a closed cycling road circuit, BMX track, BMX pump track, Cyclo-cross, 3G pitch and enhanced football, croquet and cricket provision, while also providing new changing rooms and a new sports pavilion.

It is proposed that the residential development would act as enabling development to assist in delivering the sports hub. If approved, the Brief would become development management guidance and would be used to assist in negotiations between the Council and applicants on residential proposals for the site.

View the Brief

The consultation period on the Draft Brief runs to 5pm on Friday 12th October 2018. Please email your representations to ForwardPlanning@swindon.gov.uk

Your representations will inform the content of the final version of the Development Brief.

The BUPA UK Foundation

For 2018, the Foundation's theme is "Caring for Our Carers" and support for practical, community focused projects designed to help older carers to manage and improve their own health and well-being. The Foundation selected this theme for 2018 in recognition of the fact that carers make a vital, hidden contribution to the health and well-being of the nation, yet they can often feel socially isolated, lacking support and a sense of community and many carers report that caring has taken a toll on their own health. To be eligible, projects must: meet the current funding focus; be clearly for public benefit; take place within the UK; and be delivered within 12 to 18 months.

Funding & Governance Advice

Change Your Charity Structure

Your charity’s legal structure sets out what type your charity is. There are four common types of charity structure: charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) – there are 2 structures (association CIO and foundation CIO); charitable company (limited by guarantee); unincorporated association; and trust.

You might want to change your charity’s structure because your existing structure doesn’t allow you to do something. For example, trustees of a growing unincorporated charity may decide to change to a corporate charity structure because the charity needs to employ staff.
